My man.

Head Coach in waiting* with Gus.

That’s a dream team on the hill if I’ve ever seen one.

He'd leave SMU with quickness for Arkansas.

I have often heard that Petrino would make adjustments at halftime of each game with the defense.

Did you not watch the games? His defense would be getting smoked in the first half and be lights out in the second.

That's the membership count, not the number of people who are smart enough. The top 2% of intelligence gets you eligiblity, but you're not immediately inducted upon taking an approved IQ test. You have to apply and pay a yearly fee to be in the club.

In the 98% percentile, 1 in 50 people are smart enough to be in Mensa. That's about 160,000,000 people worldwide. There are other high IQ societies that require top 1%, Mensa is just the best branded.

but I dont think he had much of a choice and his back was to the wall.

He had roughly the same choice that's available every year. He had more of a choice than a man who not only had no HC experience, but no coordinator experience. My whole irritation with the hire was that, even though it's a crapshoot and you can never tell who is going to succeed and where by the end of the day, we still made the choice that produced the maximum risk for no better of a reward. Sam Pittman was the biggest unknown on the board, and it was decided that's what Arkansas football deserved.

Even if we weren't going to unfurl our massive cock and use it to hogtie/transport Nick Saban/Kirby Smart to our doorstep, there are ALWAYS a small handful of up-and-coming mid-major coaches, and there are ALWAYS a few coordinators who have separated themselves by consistent good work. We went with the guy who had never called a play at the D1 collegiate level. The "who else would we have hired?" rhetorical question doesn't work quite as well when the answer is "literally any HC/OC/DC who isn't currently floundering at the FBS level or has never been fired for underperformance at the FBS level. So, roughly 300 better qualified applicants or so."

Well done, Arkansas.

Oh I agree. Which is why this time around I do not get anyone asking the question, "Well who could we even get?" because well, that is just a lazy and dumb response.

We could go down a list of decent mid major HC's, OC's, and DC's that would walk over broken glass to have a head coaching job in the SEC.

This isn't post Morris, 4-20 record the last two years Arkansas. Probably could have done it last time as well, but there seemed to be so many people in the Pittman wagon in regard to former players, etc.

My MIL took the Mensa test. Scored genius on all of them. She is still one of the dumbest people I know. It amazes me watching her do the everyday activities. My wife and son are both very smart but the common sense between the 3 are heartbreaking. Luckily my son has more than the other two, thanks to my dumbass.

yup. Its an idiotic response. Are we going to hire a proven, Power 5 winner that is at a solid standing program? No, unlikely.

But assuming we can't hire a solid, up and coming HC or Coordinator is idiotic.

Give the guy a solid commitment of time, organization plan for success and financial backing for himself and staff and its a no brainer. Don't care if we're 0-40.

Problem is our idiot BOT and donors will get in the way, send a mixed message, sabotage and turn it into a power struggle.

That is what has seemingly happened every time besides BP. That was the one time a gem fell into our lap and we acted somewhat decisively against the grain. Pretty sure even then we also did everything we could to screw it up, hire jim grobe but we fortunately lucked out.

Completely agree. We do that every time we’re trying to hire a coach. Petrino just happened to be in this state at the right time for us:

Yeah, Petrino was about to get his arse kicked in the parking lot by a bunch of NFL players.

He had to get out ASAP.

This is why a solid AD needs to be in place. Arkansas had one when a younger Frank Broyles was in charge but that changed when he got older, became more sloppy in his later hires.

Jeff Long comes in and the only thing that helped him was Petrino falling from the sky.

Then he made a terrible hire in a mental patient and follow it off with a coach that had no business being in the SEC.

It went from good to terrible in a matter two bad hires.

Then the BOT decided to fire the AD and Coach which got us Chaggietard.

I feel like HY's arse is on the line with the next football hire.

Arkansas and Yuracheck could have found more qualified candidates at the FCS level.

Arkansas didn't have an AD in place to conduct the coaching search.
