Jeff Long continues to frick us even after he’s gone

Still needs to prove he can build and maintain a program.
Not ready to crown him the next Coach K just yet.
I want someone proven across the board.

I had issues with Long, but Beard ending up in Lubbock is more than basketball. Outside of a Duke or Kansas offer, I doubt he leaves Lubbock.

so...that sounds like what Mike Anderson was.
I just want a young winner.

Dude is in Kansass
Mike is the last coach he hired that's still here.
Let's see what the GOBN does next.

He’s got a bunch of coaches here. Anderson and Bucknam should be two hottest seats.

Anderson and Bucknam are the only ones underperforming.
Mike is #1 on the list

Neighbors - great hire albeit too late and after the disastrous Dykes hire
Deifel - awesome hire ---- has really done an amazing job with the softball team
Hale - great hire.... needs to win the SEC tournament soon but overall has done a great job. Has made it to something like 3 SEC finals in a row. Destroyed little rock college in the postseason.

Like Mike Anderson when we hired him?

We dont necessarily need someone who is proven we need someone who is willing to take over this program and improve it. It isnt going to happen over night if we fire Mike, and I think a lot of us that want him gone arent expecting a quick improvement. What place are we in currently? In the SEC? It will take time, but we need someone who will improve recruiting, be aggressive with the players and ensure progress is being made.

What?
He had like 9 years of D1 coaching and 6 NCAA appearances and left a team that was a 2 seed the next year.
Beard has 4 with 2 NCAATs. Yes an elite 8 but he needs to be more proven. If his teams make more of a run this year I'll start to be convinced but I would prefer someone with at least 4-5 years of success.

You said you only wanted a proven winner, I’m saying that’s what Mike was when we hired him and it didn’t work out. Past success doesn’t guarantee anything.
Beard turned around Texas freaking Tech. Mizzou has always been a solid basketball program, not that tough to turnaround. I’ve seen enough of Beard, would take him in a heartbeat.

We are allowed to curse here ? Wow thats refreshing. This is nothing like that pussy arse board which seems to be run by a bunch of bipolar homosexuals.

quote:Would have snatched him out of UALR back then even with the mild success Mike was having if I was in charge and said as much back then. He was about as "can't miss" as you can get with a coaching prospect. He matched Mike's greatest season to this point in one year at UALR, which was his first ever season as a D-I head coach.

Without a doubt Chris Beard would be the first guy I called if I were H.Y. After that it would be Sampson and so on... I do NOT have any sources, I'm just an average fan. So I have no idea if he would consider us.

I have read that a lot. Not just from you. Why do you say that ? Gut feeling ? Read something ? I'm curious why people think this. Surely we are a better program than T. Tech ?

Because he has stronger connections to Tech. He won't be leaving the state of Texas unless a blue blood throws alot of money at him.

Tech is a top 25 team, and their stock is rising. Arkansas needs a total rebuild. what do we offer Beard, right now, that he cant do at Tech? win titles? make the tournament? sweet 16s? i dont what people think Arkansas, right now, offers more than alot of other schools.
we could offer more money, but how much more?
Beard treated UNLV like Altman treated us, to go to Tech. he knows the school, he knows the AD, he clearly has affection for the program. he knows the recruiting, he knows the support systems, everything was set up for him to hit the ground running, and he has. at arkansas, hed be starting over from scratch. its pretty clear he WANTS to build Tech up. he just got a big ol' raise and called it his dream job. we'd be, at best, a lateral move, and need to find a coach who wants to be at Arkansas and build it up like Beard is doing at Tech, not someone who A. has their heart at another school and state and B. is looking to springboard up to a big time program.

I agree we don’t have a ton to offer and he has the connections there. But apparently Beard’s voiced his frustrations with lack of fan support and overall support from Tech investing in the program.
Both of these things would be better here, and you’d think it’s way easier to recruit to Fayetteville than to Lubbock.
