Bumper Pool just had his first hip surgery, evidently another one is needed. At his age you've got some serious damage to need two hip surgeries.

He's a smart kid, he mostly played smart football, he was rock solid for most of his career here... better than we could have hoped for really.

But if you have a kid that banged up he should be on the bench. Not only for his long term health but because with that decrease in mobility he becomes a liability on the field.

Bumper getting the tackling record was wonderful... but was it worth the long term health issues and damage it did to an already shaky defense?

If he was hurt from the Cincinnati game and was in pain to the point that it would hurt his performance then yes take him off the field. He should have played a healthy Chris Paul but an injured Pool caused a team like Bama to run in his gaps barley untouched.

He was a liability on lots of plays last year but he wanted to keep playing so they let him. They eased him out as the season went along and it allowed for a nice transition to Paul by the end of the season. Hard to tell your 5th year senior team captain that he can't go get a few more tackle for his all time record or play a few downs on senior day.

They handled it about as well as they could IMO.

Exactly. I will never fault a coach for dealing with a kid that poured their heart and soul into this program in this manner. Pittman did a great job with this situation, as bad as it was for all involved. And Bump played his heart out Im sure.
