On the 247 board they are saying sam has indeed reached out, and asked about our job.

He has also made it clear he will return in any capacity though. Be that OC, or O line coach. He loved it here. He wants to come back home. He recently bought a house in the NWA area, and he wants desperately to get back close to his parents. They arent getting any younger. He has apparently kept in constant contact with many media, and admin people here. This is where he wants to be. Bert Just made it unbearable for him.

I don't know why we'd hire Sam Pittman as the HC and I don't believe he's a serious contender. Like, that's not even trying anymore. The athletic department doesn't deserve to make another cent if we pull some D2 bullshite like that.

I'd be happy to take Pittman back as an O-Line coach. I'm much more leery about OC though. The SEC is not the conference to get On The Job Training as an offensive coordinator. Look at Crash Craddock and Dooley up at Mizzou.

You get Pittman as HC, you get Chaney as OC. That's a no from me dawg.

I think he's worth a look. If he has the money to hire a great offensive and defensive coordinator and wants to be a CEO type coach/recruiter I could go for it. Our offensive line has been a liability since he left and I blame that as a major part of our problems with Bert and Chard.

Like I said, I'd be happy to take him back as the O-Line coach. Hell, I'd be happy to make him the highest paid O-line coach in college.

Anything beyond that is a bit worrisome.

Sam Pittman is awesome as a position coach and recruiter. I never want to see Chaney anywhere near Arkansas again so I'm not rooting for Pittman as head coach.

As O-line corch, all day long. He's a hell of a recruiter and position corch.

ETA: Give him 850k and call it a day.

You could make Pittman the Oline/Assistant HC or some title like that. Make it known he's the #2.

Pay him $900K and call it a deal.

Hell, pay him $1.5 million, he's worth every penny compared to Chavis' heist for the last 2 yrs.

I'd honetsly rather have him as a head coach than an OC. He could be the Coach O model. But everyone knows he's hiring Chaney at first chance.

Agreed. Was just about to say, give me co-OC or Assistant HC type duties to give him a say and exposure and help build his resume.

Would love to have him back, delivered some of the best recruits and O-line play I can remember.

IMO hire him as HC (similar to Cristobal or Orgeron putting great assistants around him) OR as OL coach and give him some other titles like Associate HC/Run Game Coordinator/Recruiting Coordinator but not OC.

OC needs to be a game plan and preferably QB coach developing the offense.

Our assistant coaches really have fallen off and it's the place Arkansas doesn't compete with the top schools.

Agreed.

I'm all for paying whatever it takes to bring Pittman back as OL coach. Bringing him in as OC would be a huge stretch, and HC would be rank insanity.

The latter is preferred, but the former is without a doubt a bridge too far. It's apples and oranges to compare him to Cristobal and Orgeron since both had HC experience. Cristobal was a hot name in the up-and-comer ranks when he turned FIU around in the early 2010s before it fell off, and Orgeron did well both interim gigs at USC and LSU. Both guys provided continuity. Pittman isn't comparable to those situations.

Does he not have this at Georgia?

If we get an offensive-minded coach I suppose he could share the playcalling duties and have Pittman handle OL as well as being OC, and then hire a dedicated QB coach. But that seems unnecessarily complicated.

Get him back as an Oline coach. I don't know a coach who wouldn't want that.

I wouldn't have a problem with it, if it was structured different than most would think.

HC Pittman
OC- Someone with major scheme, and ability
DC- Lord, who knows...

Pittman is a recruiter and his players are very loyal to him, they love the dude.

He isn't my 1st through 4th choice... but....

Pittman in any capacity above O-line coach is much less attractive, because of his attachment with Chaney. Chaney is not good, and I don't know of a time when he ever really was.

I think we all agree he needs to come here to coach OL no matter what. Besides chaney at OC. I think we all agree OC-HC is a stretch, but everyone here if I told them we are bringing in norvell, and pittman will be his OL coach. Every single one of you would take it no questions asked.

I hope that is the situation we are in.

Would be a great OL coach... coordinator maybe?

But I don't know whether he would move the needle in recruiting, and that needs to be priority #1 for whoever we bring in.

We need at minimum a recruiting team on par with OU and AU... better than OM and MSU.
