According to Football Scoop large donors have reached out to Gus and Norvell.
JCP has reached out to Venables and Morris.

The article insinuates 2 separate searches are being conducted

If this is the case I expect the boosters to win.

Another rumor that 2 different search firms have been hired, one for the AD search and one for the head coach

edit...sorry. Just noticed this was mentioned in another thread

With that said, here is what we’ve been hearing from the two different searches: The search is being led by the folks who ultimately fund the university and who continue to believe Gus Malzahn is in play should Auburn lose to Georgia this weekend. That, very much, remains to be seen. Should Auburn win, assuring Auburn a spot in the Playoff, the money folks seem fixated on Mike Norvell as their Plan B.

From the other search, led by those who are employed by the university, the word there is the two coaches they have vetted to their liking are Brent Venables and Chad Morris. Both of those men are outstanding football coaches and probably would do very well at Arkansas, but at this time it appears the donors would need to be sold on being a better choice that Mike Norvell. If Arkansas is able to select their new AD in the coming days perhaps he (or she) could accomplish this.

As I have been saying for a week now. Gus or Norvell will be your next coach. Money talks, and some very powerful people want one of those two.

No one except those in the know actually knows what's going on.

For all we know, it's organized chaos. The PTB have option A and option B lined up, but don't want either to know that they aren't the sole target. So when option B asks "let's move these contract negotisations along and start putting pen to paper," the PTB can have plausible reasons why they aren't ready to do that yet, like "Since we just lost our AD, we need to take a couple days to meet and get ourselves organized..." A few days later that turns into, "to make sure we do our due diligence, we are consulting an outside firm. Don't worry, you're still our guy, we just need to check all the boxes..."

Maybe it is just a complete cluster, but that's not the only possibility.

This right here. Venables or Morris hire would be vetoed, telling you right now.

He only has sources from coaches (usually lower level guys on staff) and not tbe actual power players that other have.

If this is all true, I would always put my money on... Well, the money. Seems Tyson/and or Waltons are doing ALot of the work on this also as Arkansas's biggest booster contacting people.

If this is true, it means JCP essentially has no power at all (as we all expected) and the GOBN is actually harming tbe process by conducting and vetting their own guys. I just hope Kiffin's name is not out if tbe equation though as this suggests, because I honestly think he is the best candidate for the job.

Also 8f this is true, and the boosters are chasing the Gus pipe dream... Fuk me...I mean... Seuosuly??

Beebe is correct....

However, one of the groups has contacted more than Venables, Norvell, Gus, or Morris.

and.. when headhunting, you want misdirection getting out while doing your own thing behind the scenes.

I don't see a problem, yet..

I’m hoping a week from now this is sewn up. Just seems odd that now there’s a search committee. I certainly didn’t want to read that today.

I'd be happy with Morris. We would kill it in TX recruiting.

Everyone who thinks this is some kind of well oiled plan is setting themselves up for massive disappointment. The money guys struck while the iron was hot on Long and all they had was a hope they could land Gus. This is gonna be a shitty ride, hang on.

I was in law school at UT right before Kiffin came and went. You don't want that guy. He's a second Petrino except not as proven. He would probably win for a while, then embarrass the university.

The Bielema v. Petrino comparison project proved that Arkansas can go up-tempo and speed with the 3-star and occasional 4-star recruits we get, but could not pound the rock against LSU and Alabama caliber 5-star linemen. Ergo, we need a creative offensive mind who can air it out but will also use Arkansas' plethora of running backs.

That being said, defense wins championships. Petrino did not and never would have won the SEC without an SEC-grade defense. We can't unleash headhunters like Kenoy Kennedy like we used to be able to do in the rover-bandit Nutt/Burns days, which is the last time our D was really good. Thus, we need to out-scheme them.

The best combo on the board right now to give Arkansas what it needs (recruiting, hometown connections, defense-first but a tempo offense) is Venables at HC and Rhett Lashlee as OC. That would satisfy the CrossChurch crowd and the money, especially if Rhett turned into a coach-in-waiting. We might actually be scary if a Venables defense developed in tandem with a Gus offense.

Sitting here in Atlanta, I don't think Gus leaves Auburn for Arkansas even if the temptation is great. He has built too much and Saban is too close to retirement. If he wins the SEC Championship on Saturday, Venables should be announced that evening. And hopefully Rhett will be the Monday after.

TGH
