I've really enjoyed watching Utah the past 3 seasons. I like they he's had that team playing and competing.

aaaaaaand they just came back and beat the spread w/ a TD with 16 seconds left.

so I like him even more now.

Yeah, Bert can just convince him to coach the field goal unit

Never had a job further east than Utah. He wouldn't come here.

That's what they said about Frank, Lou, Ford, Petrino, Bert etc.

Coaches aren't lifers anywhere these days. At some point we'll have to hire a head football coach again. When that day comes nobody but he knows.

I don't see us "losing Bert" to anybody. He's already paid $4.1 million.

Zuh?

Broyles coveted our job for years and practically begged Barnhill for it before taking the Mizzou job as a stop gap.

He actually told me that himself two years ago at a family thanksgiving dinner (#CSB).

Whittingham is 10 years older than Bert, for the record

Cannot be overstated how important it is that Bert is as "young" as he is. He's 46, which is fairly young for a college head coach, but he already has over a decade of big time P5 collegiate head coaching under his belt.

He's built/building a foundation here for something that is sustainable via development, redshirting and a solid walk-on program. The "up" years of both Nutt and Petrino were great but were overreliant on a few star recruits on one side of the ball.

With Nutt, we lose the core of the 98 and 99 years and go into a hole. We get Matt Jones and have a few good years, and then go into a hole. We get McFadden and Felix and have a few good years, and then go into a hole.

With Petrino, we have Mallett, Wilson and the stud class of 2008, then go into a hole because they're gone and we have no development program, too much attrition and thus no depth.

The biggest thing our program needs is stability.

I'm not saying in any way that Bert is soon to leave. Just stating that when it eventually happens Whittingham is a guy I think would be a great replacement.
