Both regard pitching. Why do you put kopps in and why do you take kosty out? I don’t mind the decision to pull Noland but kopps has been our worst pitcher in my mind for quite some time now. Then we bring in kosty and he’s dealing and you decide to have the quick hook with him. My only coaching complaints all year

Scroggins had been effective lately so I didn't mind that one, but Kopps was a head scratcher for sure. They probably had some advanced analytics behind it, but idk.

Yeah bottom line is next year our hitters have to except taking a walk. We hardly ever walk because we swing at everything. I get it we want to hit and we have good hitters but swinging at balls in the dirt is ridiculous the pitcher for tech struck out Martin early in the game on a 3-2 breaking ball in the dirt and in the left handed batters box. He intentionally threw ball 4 expecting Martin to swing and he did. If you don’t make pitchers throw strikes they won’t. It makes there job easy

We were 3rd in the league in walks this year. 319 walks taken before the CWS.

Last years team took 324 walks, which includes all CWS games.

Doesn't really matter if that goes out the window in Omaha. We stayed patient in Omaha last year and drew walks. We let teams beat themselves. We chased anything that moved this year.

Just pointing out that according to the numbers, we took the same amount of walks this year in less games.

I think you let Casey Martin cloud your judgement a tad here.

Maybe. But I do remember thinking plate discipline was lacking multiple times. I just wasn't very happy with a chunk of our players' approaches at the plate in general. How much of that do you think falls on Thompson?

So a little over 590 this season in a few less games

Around a strikeout more per game. That's a pretty good amount.

Of course a deeper look would require strikeout percentages etc.

If Martin and kerstad learn to hit breaking balls next year they'll both hit 20 hrs

We’ve had our best power hitting teams and best hitting avg. teams under Thompson.

Martin took a huge, disappointing step back this season. Started slow, picked up in the middle and got above .300 and then ended slow.

I think it’s a Martin issue IMO. We saw too many strides with other players from last year to this year to think it’s a coach issue. The book was out on Martin this year. It wasn’t last year as a freshman.

How long has Thompson been here? What coaches did we lose last year?

Ok. I take back what I said about preferring the previous hitting coach in another thread.
