FAYETTEVILLE — There may be a new look on Arkansas’ first-team offensive line at some point in week three.
The Razorbacks started the same five linemen in each of the first two games and played the starters every offensive snap in Saturday’s 41-38 double-overtime win at No. 15 TCU. But a game against Sun Belt foe Texas State could give coach Bret Bielema and his staff a chance to evaluate other players in game action, presumably at right tackle, where redshirt freshman Colton Jackson has struggled at times in the first two weeks.
Against TCU, Jackson was beaten several times in pass protection on plays that resulted in quarterback Austin Allen being hit while releasing the football. He also had two false starts at crucial times and whiffed on a fourth-quarter run block on first-and-goal at the 2-yard line that resulted in a four-yard loss as the Hogs wound up settling for a field goal that Cole Hedlund missed.
Bielema mentioned all five linemen Monday when asked about the unit’s performance. Jackson was the last one mentioned.

Would like to see Merrick and Wallace both get some time out there.

Apparent they both will get a lot of reps in the Texas State game Saturday according to Trey Biddy. He said Merrick has been kind of hurt but should be ready to go now. It will basically be a live game tryout between the two of them to see who the starting RT will be.

This is exactly what I've called for.
Jackson is a project at best, should never have wasted a scholly on him and then stopped recruiting OT.

He's young still definitely need better and more tackles but he's got 4 years left to develop.

He'll need it. His mistakes are mental mostly, but the slow reaction time can be a dog to shake until he gets it drilled down between the ears.

Wasted a Scholly? Now that's funny.....

Yeah, that was probably too harsh. the real waste of a scholly was the Hawaiian kid that should be starting at LG being a 4 star but never saw a single snap on the field and bolted after graduating.

Jackson is an athletic freak at tackle according to reporters... He just has no idea what he's doing and is mentally completely not ready.

Colton is still just a redshirt freshman, and is taking some lumps. He probably needs to take a backseat for a while yet, but I think in the long run he is going to be good. Feed him some snaps this year when you can to get him some more seasoning in non-critical situations.
