Maybe Rhoades was named interim to keep him here and maybe he would stay on for Norvell if no better options presented themselves.

He has a good track record at Pitt and did a good job the one year he was at Auburn. Bert's hand was all over this defense so I'm not willing to judge him too harshly for it. He did a great job with our secondary too... wouldn't be mad at all if he was kept on.

He was named as interim over Enos because an offensive minded HC will be named, obviously. (chuckles)

Name me one good defensive team that relys on Texas recruits.

Well, seems just about everyone who hits Texas hard is in the Big12 and defense doesn't seem to be a priority there at all. I don't think it's that you simply can't find good defenders in the state of Texas. That seems silly to me. The problem is that the offensive systems in the Big12 negate emphasis placed on defenses by the nature of their offenses. All this up tempo shite makes it very hard to put a good defense on the field, because eventually your defense will wear out having to play 90 snaps a game.

The players are there though, if you ask me. Simple math. In a metroplex the size of DFW you WILL find dudes that can play defense.

I don't blame this team's performance on either of our coordinators.

I think they were both hamstrung by Bielema.

Agreed. It would have honestly been nice to play one game without Bielema at the helm to see what would have changed with those two.

So no one who relies on defense relies on Texas for recruiting.

And you think they can't find them, they are there? Lol

They are there and they get spread amongst 20 different programs every year, there isn't enough of them to sustain a top defense for any one program.

The reason is simple, the best athletes end up on the offensive side of the ball there and they have 130 options to go and play offense in college.

Patterson has been the only HC to constantly convince them to switch to defense in college, then he had to teach them how to play defense.

I'm not buying that stuff, man. Arkansas has gone long periods in its history fielding one of the better defenses in all of college football by focusing it's recruiting efforts in East Texas. Those 20 programs you mention these kids being divided up by were still there during Ariansas's height as a program. We got them then, we can get them now.

Hell, if anything there are even more of those type athletes there now. Dallas is a lot bigger than it was in the 70s.

Texas football today is a lot different than 1970.

Old school thought process is the core of the problems of Arkansas, Texas, and Aggy, it's really no surprise they've seen the nothing programs of the swc pass them by this century.

I've thought this for a few years now, Texas doesn't produce defensive players anymore. If you run the spread Texas provides a buttload of talent on offense.
If you want good defenders go in to Louisiana, here, and anywhere but Texas.
I'm with CH, get Norvell. He can recruit. Worst case he'll stock the cupboard, and the offense will not be offensive.

That’s might be the only thing that’s changed since the 70’s

All of football is a lot different than 1970.

All of football is a lot different than 1997.

SEC football is very different than 2006.

It seems strange that people need to be told this. I've heard people say we would have been successful if it weren't from Yankees preventing us from doing things the way they were done in 1977...
