To be fair, you never said that he would be a candidate, but that you believed that he would be a good AD, yet wouldn't accept (if he were offered). Either way, I hope that we get the best that we can.
Who do you want as a coach?

Or... Which is it piofeet?
Hill was on the radio today discussing the ouster of CBB.. FWIW.

I wanted Gustavo when we hired Coach B.
Now, I just want someone that has a scheme that matches the type of talent that we can recruit out of Arkansas/Texas/Louisiana
We can’t out Bama, Bama right now.

You mean the same Bama that runs the spread? That Bama?

I have no desire to have a pass heavy coach, I don't want Gus, and I don't want an old man.
As long as defense and running the ball are priorities, then I would give the guy a chance.
Hell no to Leach and from what I can tell, Norvell.

They still run the ball down hill

I know
They also use the RPO and have a DT QB. He said we can't out Bama Bama, but hiring Gus would be closer to trying to out Bama Bama than Bert

This fricking post hurts my head. Dude we do not produce the talent in our recruiting footprint to be a defense first, run offense.
Now we do produce amazing running backs, we get bad arse wrs and TE's. We do not produce NFL Lbs. We need to be a spread coach who can get a great D line developed here. That is the recipe for success here at arkansas. Be prolific on offense, and git gud on the defensive line. We we're top 10 on defense because of a badass defensive line, and 1 good linebacker and nickel player. You can be physical with a spread offense. Bama, and Gus have shown this.
Arkansas's bread and butter will be offense. Always will be. Our recruiting base says so.

There shouldn’t be a defensive speciality coach even remotely near the finalist list for our job.

Venebles is technically a defensive guy even if he's not known for great defenses.
The only thing is worse is his interview skills.
Probably the guy.

I'm fine with a spread, as long as running the ball is the priority.

Not meant to be together. I don't want Gus because he doesn't win at a consistently high level at a school that's easier to win at than Arkansas... However, if we run the spread, I want a run first spread, and Gus does do that, although Briles is better at it.

Agreed. We somewhat went that route with Bert — philosophically speaking — and failed miserably.
Our recruiting footprint and the type of players the state produces lend themselves well to an RPO or Texas spread. We produce a decent amount of talent at the skill positions, with the occasional good QB every other class or so. We simply don’t produce enough SEC caliber defensive linemen or quality offensive linemen to have a ball control, run-heavy offense and be overly reliant on a complementary defense to pull slack.

The reason Bielema's "defense first" approach didn't work, IMO, is because he burned our Texas bridges.
What you need in order to recruit a great defense is a footprint inside a densely populated metroplex. Like DFW. Where we have traditionally signed most of our players from. Arkansas has fielded great defenses before, and can again.
Either way though, you gotta have someone who is considered the best of the best at whatever it is they do. Offense or defense. You need a coach that can recruit kids to his name alone.

Name me one good defensive team that relys on Texas recruits.

Problem is, Texas is known for speed and spread, Great WR's etc. Not for Defense much anymore. Their highschools have went the way of fast, and furious offense.. not much D

Still think we can tap in to Louisiana and get good D prospects... look at De'Jon Harris, Tolliver (had some bad games yes but still a consistent contributor), Ramirez, and Guidry. That state produces gritty football players.

That’s why I’m hoping we hire Norvell. He’d keep us in Louisiana recruiting but also mend fences bigtime in Texas.
