No sugar coating this one. We just suck arse tonight.
I was at the game last night, and we just looked sloppy as hell.
Wild pitches, no control, pitchers couldn't find the zone, errors and defensive miscues, and we just couldn't hit for shite. They stranded a ton of runners, so the score could've been even worse.
Incredible that we went through 10 pitchers.
The silver lining probably lies in the fact that we had a ton of stuff go wrong and still nearly came back in the 9th.

So basically fire the coach again right?
JK, baseball is the weirdest of games. Good for them to feel some losses before conference and get their stuff together.

I think as we enter SEC play that there are some reasonable concerns right now.
Starting pitching needs to start getting into the 6th inning of games. The team seems to lack focus at times and it shows in the field and did last night multiple times.
There are also pitchers on rosters that need to step their game up. There is no room for these guys and it worries me that DVH is going to draw criticism for Noland. He was and has always been a fan favorite but he and Wicklander need to get it together or they need to transfer.

Said this very thing to my son as we were leaving yesterday.

It puzzles me how Wick and Nolan aren't any better at locating this year. It begs the question of what the hell did they do during the off season.
We need them at the very least to be serviceable middle relievers.
If they can't step up along with Ramage, Gray and Taylor the SEC will eat us up.

I have a bad feeling we are going to struggle with pitching with Alabama and State. We will probably get swept by State and we get knocked down to the top 15.

Ramage is what he is at this point, unfortunately, and DVH continues to bring him in.

When did the new pitching coach start? 2018?
Seems like he did wonders with Campbell but we're not seeing a whole lot from Noland and Wick.
End of the day its down to the players but just curious if there is any correlation for concern.
I know we'll be fine, I don't like being number 1 anyway. It's a bad look for us Hog fans if we're honest with ourselves.

Guys either put in work on their own and with the team or they didnt. It looks like Noland put his work in at the buffet.

It would certainly help. Lately we get to watch them self destruct on the mound. Glimpses of good, but then down the shitter with a quickness.

This will kill us in the meat of our SEC schedule if we have to continually roll the dice with our relievers to eat innings after shaky start.
One concern last night was that guys just couldn't find the zone. OU's team K/BB ratio was 13:1, ours was closer to 1:1 (10 K's, 8 walks).
We just couldn't get on base, whereas they seemed to get on base every inning.

This for sure.
And FWIW his Dad was a complete drunken a-hole in Arlington. I had the pleasure of listening to him throw multiple F bombs in front of lots of young kids.

For some reason Greenwood sports has some serious entitlement it seems.

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I'm not seeing what Hobbs has done to earn all the praise he gets.

I know the recruiting focus has shifted but there is no denying there has been a difference since prior to his arrival.
We had absurd staffs throughout DvHs tenure top to bottom.
2018 was deep but still lacked the starter fire power besides Campbell.
Just discussing here of course, not calling for anyone's job as we're obviously doing a LOT of things right.

I don't know enough about baseball to call for a firing or anything. It just seems like we have had more guys regress than progress the last couple of years.
Kopps and Zeb have looked good. Pretty much all of the guys they threw out there last night seem to have regressed.
It feels odd hearing them slobber him up and down while our pitchers are out there having trouble getting one across the plate

The whole waiting late in the game to win isn't sustainable. At least it won't be when we get into conference play.

Agree. If Arkansas doesn’t figure out how to 1) get starters into the 6th, 2) Get runs across early and get leads, 3) Get veteran pitchers on track, we may find ourselves around .500 in SEC play and sweating out a regional host spot.
Free passes and relying on young pitchers is a recipe for disaster in this league. Falling behind regularly against the rest of this leagues pitching staffs is not a good thing.
