Yeah I think to be a 4 star you have to be top 300 in the country which is usually skill players that go to camps. Otherwise just be freak athlete and large for an offensive linemen. Defensive linemen, freakishly sized with speed.

For a good line you need depth, and Sam has had 4 technical years, but let’s say 3 because that first year was a wash without being in the players homes and building a relationship.

How many years does he believe we need to get depth? Because most of the ones he has used are Chads. And like Chad or not, he could recruit. Couldn’t coach but he could recruit.

So is the problem Cody Kennedy not being a recruiter? Or is he terrible at X and O? One will be easier for Sam to fix with his 34 years of experience.

all of this is a good question. I loved his responses during his presser today/Monday. But I agree to an extent. We aren't lacking much anywhere else thus far... Perhaps LB if depth becomes an issue.

Everywhere else seems improved other than Oline. Which baffles me. So, as HC he is responsible for the improvements elsewhere... meaning he is responsible for the lack of progression on the OL as well, especially with it being his area of expertise.

How do we have so many 4**** WR's, TE's, Defensive players, and so few highly rated OL players?

That's on your career OL boy Sam, Rev.

Limmer is playing out of position from lack of recruiting a legit center.

Take that FWIW

It's odd in college football how often you see coaches get promoted and their areas of expertise go downhill. Jimbo with QBs, Barry Odom with safeties, Venables with OU's defense last year, etc.

Seems like pretty frequently the reason these coaches are hired eventually becomes the very position that gets them in trouble. I guess part of that is college football is constantly changing and what worked 5 years ago might not now.

To bring this back, I don’t think Sam is gone after this year. I think he has another 2-3 years. The problem is are they Houston’s years before Gus saved him? He hasn’t recruited the one position everyone expected and was promised. If he can’t do that at least, is it worth it to have him long term, especially since you can’t leave a coach playing on a short contract and he will be getting a new one shortly.

I think that’s mostly because they try not to play favorites so they ignore the group. Which becomes a blindside. That’s what everyone is saying about Sam right now. Everything is looking b to b+ or higher except our offensive line for his entire stint.

Of course he is, he's a yes man and that's exactly what to GOBN wants.

I believe that’s what boosters want more than anything. To be able to call the coach and show off to their friends. Oh but have you golfed with the coach? Have you been on the field during a bowl game?

And Jeff Long blew up their little party when he brought in Bobby P.

Built amazing facilities and had a winning Coach., although he was a POS.

I guess many have forgotten going 4-8 in 2017, 2-10 in 2018, and 2-10 in 2019. We were the laughingstock of college football just 4 years ago.

Pittman isn't perfect by any means, but he is unquestionably the best we've had since Petrino. That's 12 years ago, which means the seniors this year were probably 10 years old the last time we weren't steaming dogshit.

People forget that we had complaints about the OL even when Sam was here before.

"Skipper is too tall to be an OT and gets blown by against quicker DEs"
"Kirkland is an OG and isn't a good tackle"
"We can't convert short yardage to save our life" (remember the 4 straight goalline plays against A&M where we got stuffed?)
"Why can't we run on Toledo?"

OL play is just such a hard thing to judge.

yep ESPN would hype up the biggest line in football but then we’d get our shite pushed in by Rutgers tcu and Texas tech

Wasn’t it 7? We got a first down in there because of an A&M penalty.

After watching the game again, the first drive was killed by poor perimeter blocking by Wilson, not on the line. Now maybe the scheme doesn’t need our receivers blocking linebackers but it wasn’t on the line. He was also the one that was blown back into our receiver on the jet sweep that had blockers in front, although Armstrong probably could have cut that up underneath and gotten some yards there. Then dubinion missed a hole on a first down run as well. So as far as I can tell most of our bitching about the o line falls at the feet of Jaidon Wilson and his shitty arse perimeter blocking.
