Yeah one of the worst things that can happen to a team is when you start to only look at guys that are “one of us” good ole boy bullshite.

You’re ignoring or dismissing the entire Mississippi State episode. A division rival apparently was a serious consideration. So you get concessions in the form of your contract being re-structured, and the title of associate head coach. In response, damn near immediately you are playing footsie with TCU. Sorry, I just don’t see it as a stretch for his bosses to think he didn’t want to be here.

Take my career in IT. I currently work at a great company who I'm not really interested in leaving. I still listen to ovations from recruiters that interest me or demonstrate where i can make more money. It doesn't mean i don't wanna work at my current company it just means it's a competitive job market and i need to stay on top of what I'm worth and what opportunities i have in it.

I have a similar situation in my field. But I don’t take my boss’ competitors overtures for more money or higher status and use it as leverage and a passive aggressive ultimatum for more concessions from my boss. It might fly once, maybe even twice in my career. If I pull it twice in one month? He’s going to say you probably should take that opportunity.

From the post from his money guy it doesn't sound he played footsie.

It sounds like miss state was footsie to seal his raise for the year based on market value. It sounds like the call from the friend at TCU pretty much made it a done deal and wasn't something briles expected when the miss state negotiations went on. Seemed to me like it was more a timing thing between the offers and openings and negotiations.

See this makes sense although if you're worth more out there you definitely should be getting the most you can. I do agree with your negotiation logic here being the norm in most professions.

But as turnover and job scarcity increases for a career field it typically makes this type of behavior more the norm. College football coaching turnover is a spectacle year in and year out. These guys would be dumb to not squeeze every dime they can out of the slush fund because you can also get runout and lose your ability to make that money again pretty easily.

I get this, and pretty much agree. But you can’t sell Briles wanting more than anything to be here as OC and possibly HC at some point on one hand, and then this mentality on the other. It’s completely self serving for Briles. Which is why I said way back in this thread, if he wanted to be here, that’s where he would be.

Dude, I don't know what to tell you other than Briles would jump here in a heartbeat for HC. He definitively wanted to be with his family, if not. His parents live in TX, home is less than an hour from the TCU campus.

He deserved the raise from Miss State, Just look at what Odom was getting period for example.

I do believe he will make an incredible HC one day. And we will probably wish it was here. Because duh! we are Arkansas. I may be wrong, and will readily admit it if so.

Pitt was one of the reasons for lack of success however. This I believe completely on the offensive side. But, we keep doing this over and over. He is GONE! lol be happy, i suppose.

I am thrilled Enos is the guy

Yet he was essentially given a HCIW title here, to a coach everyone knows will be here 3 more years maximum, yet bolted to TCU as soon as they came calling. Sam Pittman was born in 1961, Sonny Dukes in 1969 (three months older than me) so if a HC position is what you aspire to, sticking here for a couple more years, even if it is somewhat below your market value, is a much shorter path to the throne, is it not?

I’m sure we disagree here, but I think the defense outperformed the offense this year even with all the suckage and injuries. As I said before, our defense kept our opponents to less than a TD for 22 quarters of football. Our offense was held to less than a TD for 19 quarters.

One thing is for certain: if Briles is eventually hired, he'll suddenly be labeled the next coming of Saban by many of the same folks trying to convince us that Enos is an upgrade.

What's the story on Jeffcoat? Like why are we excited about him? Was he just not getting enough time on field at Mizzou to be productive or what?

A really, really good get. Had some sort of issue in the past that evidently USCe wouldnt let him enroll for. Perhaps Title9??? All really quiet on this however. When he wasn't accepted soon enough by USCe, and was having to wait on an answer, Deke Adams struck. Yes, He actually has quite a bit to do with him coming here. Yep, THAT DEKE< lol

Are you speculating about a title 9 issue or have reason to think that's the case?

I read 14 pages on a gamecocks board, then read some on a mizzou board (Ouch, my eyes) ... They are pretty confident on it. But no proof.

One even said that a female student made an accusation but declined to prosecute. BUt the President of USCe knows the family personally and believed the story so nixed the transfer to USCe... Said it was on a radio show earlier in the day in SC... IDK man, something was messed up to have them be unable for him to attend, then he comes here withing a few days. WPS I guess

I thought this was interesting article on the new staff and their pay from a while back. This is prior to the briles move.

Arkansas had a school-record salary pool total of $6.14 million last season.

For all those saying we're not spending any money on coaches. Granted the article also outlines That we saved 150k in assistant salaries this round. Then you get the 200k(enos at 1.1 and briles was gonna be 1.3) back from enos and briles exchange. Were gonna end up reducing costs this off-season for sure.

Yeah, there is a rumor on 247 that we are NOT hiring a 10th assistant coach this time around. Folks are going nuts.

LOL, the rumors never cease.

This would be the one of the most Arkansas things ever to do. Cheap out and not even hire a 10th when we already have one of the lowest salary pools and lowest paid head coaches in the conference.
