What hasn't been discussed and had probably been missed is the cal hire should be the new model, but the old guard in the AD will block it because it cuts them out.
I'm the past the big money donors were related on to help with the buyouts, facilities, etc. They receive names on facilities and little public recognition for actions otherwise.
A smart ad would use their money not for the foundation or university directly but to recruit a HC by guaranteed NIL budget for 2-3 years, if the HC wins the collective would take over as far as NIL is concerned, the money would be there.
This was Tysons idea to get his buddy Cal and it worked, Arkansas is stacked with basketball NIL and isn't stressed about his salary on top of it, season tickets are sold.
Arkansas has enough individual donors who can fund the NIL on their own for a year or two if you hire their guy and you give them public acknowledgement for doing so...
You going to have to "lose" money from the big foundation donations to make more money from goods sold by having a wanted product, tickets, merchandise, small foundation donations for said tickets, etc.
This would be far more effective for quicker then continuing to beg and then blame fans for not wanting to throw $100 or more each every month for the product in place at the current time.

quote:Bingo. Fans were leaving a tied game at halftime last week. Who the hell wants to jump into that?
We refuse to support what is already there, so why should we expect a coach any better to come here on hope of change?

It was satire for people thing Arkansas would ever hire a good coach.

Fan support isn't the issue when a program like Ole Miss has a top level collective.
What they did right was hiring Lane and that got fans excited but more importantly they had 10 win seasons. That helps in the growth of donations from fans.
Arkansas hires an OL coach with no head coaching experience. That brought excitement like many new hires do and peaked during the 2021 season then it crashed right after last season. That was the time to make a coaching change and a new hire would have helped a lot in NIL donations. But they doubled down and made things worse.
Arkansas and Ole Miss are small market SEC teams with small populated states. Ole Miss has been paying players since the days of Hugh Freeze and probably had a setup in secret where money is given to the players. Arkansas was standoffish in paying players for some reason. When you got a program that is so desperate for success, they make decisions on a whatever it takes attitude.
That gives Ole Miss an advantage because they already had a system in place that is close to an NIL collective. While Arkansas just keeps beating around the bush and let themselves get behind.
It will be interesting to see how long it will last at Ole Miss as they are so desperate for success that will do anything. Both don't have the populations necessary in competing with much larger states in the SEC. I see them crashing and burning.
Mississippi State doesn't have the money at all in the era of NIL. They might as well drive themselves to a cemetery, dig a hole and just fall in.

And they lost to a mediocre at best Kentucky team today.

The reason they got so much hype is because of Kiffin. They are an 8-4 team that is getting way too much attention.
The collective is still not getting them the elite players.

On paper it is in the portal, but like we saw with our basketball team last year it doesn’t always come together
