Arkansas has a unique opportunity to take part in a historic event on Dec. 16, when the commissioning of a new Naval vessel, the USS Little Rock, will take place.

The ceremony will be held in Buffalo, New York, where the original USS Little Rock, which was decommissioned in 1976, now sits as a museum ship at Buffalo and Erie County Naval and Military Park. The commissioning ceremony will be broadcast live from New York, and a watch party will take place at the Ron Robinson Theater in Little Rock beginning at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 16. This is the first time in the Navy’s 242-year history that a new ship has been commissioned alongside its namesake ship.

Little Rock isn't a shite hole. Pine Bluff is a shite hole. Pretty obvious you haven't spent a lot of time around Little Rock.

Lol

Swing down Asher Ave or Roosevelt sometime. May want to bring a firearm for protection. It's the same as Pine Bluff, sport. Maybe you're the one who needs to spend more time in Little Rock

So Little Rock isn't a war zone?

We’re Having Gang Wars All Over Again

Since your reading and critical thinking skills are an open question, I'll throw out some key points

quote:

In the 1990s, Little Rock gained unwanted national attention when the number of homicides in the small city reached a record 76 in 1993, unexpectedly making the Arkansas city the most murderous city per capita in the U.S.

quote:

last year, something started to change. Already in 2017, 45 people have been killed in Little Rock. That’s more than the 42 killed in all of 2016, which itself represented a 35 percent uptick from the year before.

There’s not a doubt about it,” Tyrell said. “We’ve had a resurgence of gang activity.”

quote:

In Little Rock, it only takes 10 minutes to drive from the downtown gastropubs and the clean lawns in front of Clinton Library to the abandoned, overgrown homes in the city’s most impoverished and historically segregated African-American neighborhoods south of Interstate 630.

quote:

fall of 2016, when in September three teenagers were shot a block away from Central High School, leaving one of them paralyzed. In November, a 2-year-old named Ramiya Reed was shot and killed while sitting on her mom’s lap inside a car. One month later, 3-year-old Acen King suffered the same fate during a purported road rage incident.

quote:

During one nine-day period in late June, Little Rock police were called to the scene of a dozen separate drive-by shootings, a string of violence that climaxed in the early hours of July 1, when 25 people were shot inside the Power Ultra Lounge downtown nightclub.

Yeah what a charming city. Keep your head in the sand. In fact, buried in sand is probably the safest place it can be in LR

The Satellite on Asher was a war zone in the 70's

I spent 27 years in and around LR and never once came face to face with any sort of crime, let alone murder and drive-by shootings. It's just like any other downtown metro/city, if you keep to yourself and stay out of the known bad areas you'll be perfectly fine.

The two kids killed in shootings was horrible and shook the city, but something like 90% of those crime figures are gang related and gang-on-gang violence. I don't think it takes a rocket surgeon to understand that being in a gang or gang affiliated is dangerous no matter the locale.

I'm not white-kniting for LR and don't think it's any better/worse than NWA, I just think the 'warzone' and 'shite hole' comments that always come from soccer mom types out there are overdone and overblown.

Well, I mean, I don't have any reason to hang out in gang neighborhoods. I'm sure if I did I could find trouble. Some of you folks act like there's an armed criminal sneaking up on you from every direction. I'm sure glad there isn't any crime up in NW Arkansas.

Posting all the black on black crimes that you find doesn't make Little Rock a shite hole.

The nicest parts of Little Rock are three blocks from gang neighborhoods

How many shootings are there in NWA? I don't have a perfect memory, but I don't remember any 25 person shootings recently. Saying "all cities have crime" is such a false equivalency. That is such a bullshite "point"

Yep. If only you could get rid of all the blacks, LR would be great. But those crimes "dont really count", so just forget about it! What a joke

Nope.

I don't know, but Fayetteville is smaller and less diverse than Little Rock. I think we both know that, other than chicken processing plants, that NW Arkansas doesn't have as much diversity as the Central and Southern parts of the state. All this crime that you're bringing up is predominantly black on black crime.

That's not what I said and you know it. I don't live in Little Rock, but I have worked in Little Rock for the last 20 years. It's a great city whether you think so or not.
