Don't lump this into "Christians" and non-Christians. I have a very simple philosophy... what you choose to do in the privacy of your own home is between you and God. What you do in public affects me and my family as well and I should have some rights in that area as well.
You explain to a 4 year old why that girl has her hair cut like a boy and is holding hands and kissing that other girl! In my house that is not acceptable. PERIOD. and I shouldn't be forced to deal with that in public either.
I would like to think I wouldn't discriminate if I was in a hiring/firing position, but I probably would. It's human nature.
Our society is WAY too touchy feely these days.
In my house it isn't acceptable for a man and a woman to be out in public holding hands or kissing, period. I also don't find it acceptable for a woman to show her face in public. It should be covered.
I don't care what you do in the privacy of your home, but in public I don't want your wife and daughters exposing their scandalous flesh to my family. So... burkas for all.

So, you're saying that everybody around you should be forced to conform to your idea of what's ok.
I could go my entire life and be just fine not seeing two dudes kissing. If Tim Tebow and Michael Sam feel like they should make out though, they have that right.
Yeah. This soft discrimination is something people don't see. They say stuff like, "It's only an issue because gay people want to flaunt their sexuality and make it an issue."
They don't realize that heterosexual relationships are "flaunted" every day. Hetero couples hold hands. Hetero couples admit to living together as a couple, not having to say they're "roommates" for fear of getting evicted. Hetero couples can visit their SOs workplace without fear of reprisal for their SO (delivering lunch, flowers, etc...). There are tons of "normal" behaviors that hetero couples "flaunt" on a daily basis that gay people don't feel free to engage in. It's not just about kissing in public or wearing leather chaps in a gay parade.

Dang right I have the right to not have my child exposed to things in PUBLIC that don't conform to the standards this country WAS FOUNDED UPON.
I do parent my child.... she knows a heck of a lot more about right and wrong at 4 years old than most of our society does, I will tell you that.
...... and read my entire post..... do what you want to do in private... but in public show respect for the fact that not everyone thinks homosexuality is ok and don't flaunt it in our face!!!! BECAUSE... when you do, you are going to get my opinion of it. Keep it to yourself and I will keep my opinion to myself as well.

quote:So wait a minute, you'd like to think you wouldn't discriminate, but then you say you probably would, then you justify it by saying that it's human nature (like it's beyond your control) and that it's really society that is the problem, not you, because society is too touchy feely.

Am I understanding you properly?
If you'd like to think that you wouldn't discriminate, then why are you making excuses for yourself to discriminate? Why don't you take some responsibility for yourself and your actions? Otherwise, you're just being weak.

So... you support discrimination. Thanks.

Our country was founded on freedom... Not being an uptight little bitch who can't handle people with different viewpoints.
P.S. Don't fly a fricking plane into a building or anything or blow up some community center.

because I have a clearly defined set of values.... and when I see something that in my mind is not acceptable, it is going to be hard to not have opinions about it.

I try to have the Phil Robertson mentality. Love the sinner hate the sin. I know that didn't at all come across that way but that is my official stance.
and get the frick out of here if you can HONESTLY say you don't discriminate, you can pretend all you want but we all do it. As a Christian I know that is part of my imperfection. I work on it and pray about it, but it's almost impossible not to form an opinion on something I believe to be wrong.

Sorry dude, but this is the dumbest fricking thing I have read in at least 2 months. You don't have the right to not be uncomfortable with the way people choose to lead their lives. If you don't want your child to be exposed to perfectly legal things that you disapprove of, then don't take him out in public and have him turn into one of those sheltered, awkward dipshits that don't know how to navigate today's society.
If you really want to live in a place where you won't be exposed to that type of stuff in public, then move to Saudi Arabia or some shithole like that where it is illegal. But they are brown-ish, so I assume you find that to be kind of icky based on the amount of backlash you have about gay people trying to live normal, happy lives.

excuse me sir but show me where I have ever given any hint of racial prejudice.
If I have prejudice it's over right/wrong beliefs NOT the color of someones skin.

What gives you the right to decide what is right or wrong in a secular society? Nothing. What gives God the right to decide what is right or wrong in a secular society? NOTHING.

You haven't, but I made a general assumption that, based off of your general closed-mindedness towards gay people trying to live normal lives, you would also think that non-white people are icky.

At least your honest, there is at least a place to start a discussion.

1. Not Baptist
2. See I work off of the idea that God is going to decide a lot of things one of these days, and I'm going to try my best to get lined up with HIS teachings. I understand liberals like you won't like that because it might hurt someones feelings and all that.
3. I'm a hunter too. Want to attack me for that?

Not so, I believe god has no place in determining laws in a secular society. It has nothing to do with feelings.

we will have to agree to disagree on that then.

I work off the idea that I'm responsible for my actions and that my actions and inactions affect other people.
I also work on the assumption that if I don't fix shite a mythical space zombie isn't going to show up and make things right just because I write him checks every week.
No one has ever explained to me why a guy kissing another guy or a girl having sex with another girl affects me personally :)
I've never had the gay lobby come banging on my door and telling me that if I don't immediately convert and start sucking cock that I'll be forever damned to a fiery hell :)

Oh, just now figured out your are an Atheist.
at least now we have a starting point. I will be praying to that "mythical zombie" that you will find your faith.... and If you ever have a question about it I would be glad to share my faith with you.

Goody fricking gumdrops for you. I was raised baptist, yet I am still able to respect a person's right to live their lives free of persecution from overzealous biblethumpers who would prefer that gay people hate themselves for the way they were born rather than trying to be happy.

Our society is no longer based on God's teachings. America is a melting pot society and that is what helps make us unique. Should we as a society comply to Sharia law because that's how they believe their God is going to judge them? How about the Hindus or Buddhists? What ever would I do if I somehow offended a follower of Odin? The law doesn't differentiate between whoever the frick you decide to worship. We as a society are supposed to try and live together in harmony, and to do that we have to deal with cultures and customs that we are not familiar with/do not approve. Just because two guys want to do butt stuff doesn't make them any less of a human being. You have every right to disapprove. Hell, you have every right to be a dick and confront people about shite like this. You, however, have no fricking right to stop them from living their lives the way they see fit.

Nah, but you probably suck at it because you are too busy shaking with anger from thinking about gay rights to actually make a decent shot.
