Mercy!

They are thankful, half of the student body is Baptist, the other half... Wealthy agnostics!

BTW what makes them heretics? and do you support Ouachita Baptist heretics? Williams Baptist heretics?

Is a heretic the mascot of Hendrix Methodist?

this should be fun!

Is anyone who has truly accepted Christ into their hearts and acts in earnest and tries to live life righteously a heretic regardless of denomination? (I’m not non-denominational, btw) and not trying to stir the pot so if it belongs on another board, someone tell me. Wanted to know your thoughts, Rev.

I am not really big on names, but to answer to the best of my abilities.. .I would add (obedience) in there somewhere. Now, it should be a given that "acts in earnest and tries to live life righteously" is inclusive of obedience...

but, on the names part... Who/what is the Baptist church named after and why? Most do not believe baptism is a part of salvation, and John the Baptist was sent as a prophet of Christ... Not Christ himself, so... always been a bit confused on that one.

Methodist? We could do this all day I suppose. WPS!

This is true. The further you go back in history the more there is to unravel as well because whether it was The Roman Catholic Church, Church of England, or other churches throughout time - they all also played much more significant roles in day-to-day governance than they do now(or were The Government in some cases). I think most now have a more practical view besides extremists and I don’t feel unwelcome in any church I go to. But I don’t ever hit the fringe with the snake handlers and such, so I don’t know about those folks…

Harding students are required to go to chapel once a day and twice on Sunday IIRC

Well, not entirely true... but mostly. Plus, they know the rules prior to enrolling. Head on elsewhere, if ya don't like it!

You dont think making someone go to church 8x a week is a bit excessive?

I went to Harding. You get 10 chapel skips a semester so it's not like you can't occasionally miss. I rather enjoyed Chapel most of the time. A great way to start the day together with fellow Christians and it's a great way to let the student body know what's going on that week on campus.

Not to my knowledge. I went to chapel M-F. I usually went to church Sunday morning. Church attendance wasn't something they checked on.
