quote:except that’s not what happened with Sam. Same went from 9 to 6 to 4 to who knows what that’s a downward trend. If sam won 6 games again last year nobody would be saying he was on the hot seat going into this year. Now id say after 4 or 5 seasons of 6 wins in a row yes then it would be time to make a change regardless of who it is. Eventually you’ve got to win more than 7 games in a season.
I think it would be enough for a couple of years, then once 7-8 wins became the norm again, fanbase expectations would go up just like they did after Sam won 9 games and money would start to dry due to "stagnation" and we'd be right back here again.
I mean think about what you said, once 7-8 wins became the norm again. When was the last time 7-8 wins was normal for us? 2011. It’s been 13 years since that was normal for us. Hell yes I would take that again. And that’s all I’m asking. As are most fans. I mean what’s the alternative? Like I said just accept that we suck and will suck forever? Am I a bad fan for wanting us to win a conference game at least twice a year?

Twice a year...hold that horse partner, Pitt boss about to make you happy. We will win another sec game this season and then you can shut it, right? Lol

That wasn't to say Sam doesn't deserve to be on the hot seat. I just used him as an example as to how quickly the fanbase's perception and expectations can change based purely on results. I believe people are happy with that 6 win season in year 3 if year 2 hadn't been such a spark. Instead, it was the beginning of his downfall partly due to the expectation shift that happened. We went from being over the moon with being simply competitive in SEC games to being disappointed over not winning more SEC games than we lost in one year. Not saying it's right, wrong, or otherwise, but that did happen.
I think once people got used to winning 7-8 games again, it wouldn't be long before it wasn't enough and more would be demanded.

I for one was not that upset about 6-6. The only game that I really felt like we let go was Missouri but even then it wasn’t like the sky was falling. 4-8 last year was rough but I get it, lots of close losses and enos sucked arse. But at what point do all of the one score losses add up?

Dunno. I'm not attempting to defend Sam's tenure. Just pointing out how fickle expectations are.

It is going to really tough to win 7-8 wins a year using a lot of portal players.

Take away the Bobby wins for Jeff and Chad losses for Hunter. Because neither hired those coaches, they were just present.
33-42 vs 26-26.
If you take away smiles, it’s 29-34 vs 26-26… so about equal on the football front. Mostly because neither have put an emphasis on winning.
