As the schools on UA's level continue to accept more enrollees and lowering standards to allow more enrollees, this will exacerbate the problem for the smaller colleges.

Of all the programs that survived, I am completed surprised it was the physics department. It's tiny and graduates like 5-10 students a year.

I have several family members who are educators, and I myself have a SPecialist degree in higher ed. One thing I can vouch for these days, What you wrote above... doesn't seem too far fetched anymore.

My experience has been quite the opposite actually. Most of the people I know are moderate but I know several who are quite conservative (and not shy about it).

nope... But the way things are moving in higher ed, the rules, the pronoun descriptives, the lack of religious symbolisms allowed, the push towards inclusiveness of all things allowed. Man, it is getting really odd even in the more rural areas of our nation.

I don't go as far as Harry is above, but things have vastly changed in 12-15 years and not in a great way!

I'm a big fan of religious symbols in the classroom. Personally, I'd like to include them.

just terrible....

Had a bus driver in our hometown with a sticker on the bus that said, "We kneel for the cross and stand for the anthem"

an athiest in town threw a fit and cause a major uproar with the schoolboard, etc. She had to remover the sticker.

I honestly find it easier to avoid discussions of religion or politics. Just better for everyone. If someone is really interested, I would talk to them after class but they're pretty much ready to go after sitting there for an hour. :)

I get it, I really do. But it has gone from.. "Don't bring up your personal beliefs on religion" to "anything that can be considered religious in thought, or deed must be thrown out immediately"

Yet, he, she, it, they, gay, trans, tri, gore, fem, are all allowed to be discussed and even studied at some of these universities.

SAU and Henderson are better off being glorified technical centers and churning out teachers and nurses than anything else.

Don't ever compare the two. SAU is one of the better run universities in the state and they actually have their own 2-year technical college/votech as part of their system.

SAU also has been growing in enrollment for years (pre Covid) and is back to around its previous levels. They don't even have enough housing on campus as it is, and are about to build a hotel next door to accommodate more visitors.

Its also located in a very resource rich area of the state, where is quite a bit of small industry between Camden (defense companies), and Magnolia and El Dorado (timber, oil, lithium, and bromine).

SAU is also the only college southbof LR with a PhD program (I think it's in some type of education).

Henderson has always been known as a school that basically anyone could get a degree from. Even going back to the 60s and 70s, that's where your dumb friends went to get a coaching degree. I know multiple people around 50-60 yrs old that did just that.

It's also doesn't help that Henderson has OBU right next door. I know different demos of students and all, but still, they are at quite a disadvantage. I also believe Arkadelphia is in a dry County. Which is just insane now for any college town.

There is still a need for schools like UAM, SAU, Ark Tech, Henderson, etc. It sounds like Henderson's major downfall was atrocious leadership under their former administration. Colleges also cowtowing to Covid hysteria also didn't help.

I do think there's a problem with flagship school enrollment. Wasn't half of the U of A's most recent class from Texas? Seems like Arkansas kids are being priced out of Arkansas

How many kids from Arkansas are getting in versus twenty years ago? Are they getting priced out or did we just increase the enrollment by going to an out of state pool?

Waiving out of state tuition for bordering states was a game changer for UofA.

I'd bet a 1/3 of students there are now from Texas, or maybe more. It's also probably why you've seen such growth at places like UCA...which was a DII school in the early 00s.
