I had 5:1 rather have Petrino than Dabo.

Will he tho?

He come with a high price tag to be a CEO style coach who's decline has just as much to do with loss of assistant coaches as it does with refusal to play the portal and nil game.

That’s a big if

But I’m sure the money guys would do their due diligence before hiring him. They’d see the same issues we do and they’d put their money where their beliefs are

I’d be pro Dabo if he’s willing/wanting to adapt

He does average 11 wins in the NIL era. He changes his stance he’d be a massive hire imo.

I’m just in awe of the BP for HC people that think he’s gonna go hire an elite defensive staff. He’s gonna hire his family lol
His family seems to be full of some decent coaches. His son and son-in-law are doing just fine at MSU. 6-3 in their first FBS season now.

People didn't like Willy back in the day either, but I'd give my left nut for his defense today.

Petrino doesn't need some home run DC hire to win. It just can't be damn near dead last in the entire country.

So where’s the NIL coming from?

At that point you have a booster problem, not a coach problem. If the money people want to be petty at the expense of the program then we as fans need to realize we're not a serious program anymore and find something else to do on Saturdays in the fall.

Imagine you’re a billionaire and you got with the other mega boosters and pledged a huge amount of money to go get a really good coach and staff, then you drop on them “hey we’re keeping the staff that just went 0-8 and giving them pay raises”

It's not about "keeping the staff". Hell he's already started firing people and he doesn't even have the job. You're keeping the guy that has already proven he can win here and just facilitated the only competitive part of the team even while the boosters were withholding support due to a lack of trust in Pittman.

I don't think a smart man would put much stock in the guy not being able to radically change one of the most poorly funded rosters in the conference in the middle of the season.

If he got the job(he’s not) very good chance he would keep the DC in place now permanently, big part of the reason he’s not even being considered now.

I mean at this point that's just speculation. Is he gonna hire his family like you claimed earlier or is he keeping Wilson?

Even if he did, it's not like the assistant defensive line coach was who created the shite we see on the field now.

Now if we were talking about him sticking with Travis Williams, that'd be another thing entirely.

He's probably the only coach who has an offensive playbook and a defensive playbook to be ran. He is one of the few who can legitimately coach every position on the field. His micromanaging has held him back.

He is the floor.

The issue is Dabo and Franklin don't move the needle of excitement as the ceiling. How do you know this? Because you have to sell people on each one just as much as the P4 names thrown around.

Dabo is a rah rah guy who will need a huge budget for the staff with no previous ties to the state or university. He is currently in a Pittman situation where the buyout is ensuring his employment.

Franklin is fresh in the memory of having a top 5 team losing to a 0fer UCLA team with an interim HC and being fired before the halfway point of the season due to underperforming.

These are not exciting names. If either one had some sort of previous ties and were not unemployed or soon to be unemployed it may move the needle. Basically if it was 2015 not 2025.

Even Bert was coming after being on top at Wisconsin.

He interviewed during the bye week and his preference for DC was to keep Wilson if he couldn’t hire his son in law.

Might not be popular, but I honestly wouldn't hate him bringing his son-in-law in. MSU broke their single season sack record back to back years after he brought him on there as DC. Couldn't be any worse than what we've got now.

There is a lot of rumors flying within tonight, started a couple hours before that tweet. I don’t have any concrete info but usually swirling rumors is what happens shortly before something actually happens.

If I've learned anything from past hires, it's not any of the names floating around.
