Context. This was after a losing season where we saw a 6-6 finish which should have been 9-10 wins if not for 4th quarter collapses.
People would have been ecstatic with 6-6/7-5 his first season coming off a 2 win season, which they were with it being the covid year and the schedule wins projected to that mark.
The next coach has the same opportunity to do the same thing with Arkansas finishing with 2 wins again.

Uninspiring but he had success at USA

Screwed as in somewhere between Stein and Womack.
Or Hunter will panic and try to take Petrino before the BOT like he did Lunney.
Or his dream scenario of hiring Barry Odem. Before refered as the mystery P4 coach.

I'd throw a hail Mary at Chesney from JMU. If not God only knows who we will get.

And it goes without saying that if you finish 6-6, you lost some winnable games. No different from Pittman.

If you go back to the last coaching search threads the consensus was;
Bowl game most years
Competitive in every game
6-6 every season with a 8-10 wins every four was acceptable.
Chaggy beat down the expectations to that level.
What changed? Jimmy Sexton.
Of course the longer a coach stays the higher the expectations.
Pelphrey had the level to the hope of just consistently making the NCAA tournament or NIT. That happened then it was make it to the second weekend.
Muss left before people started to get disgruntled about not getting over the elite 8 hump.
So yes you are correct, but it is correct that the situation this year was so dire a lot of people convince themselves they would be happy with just making a bowl game.
The escalation of expectations is just another reason a coaches shelf life is only 4-6 years at a school in average.

I think a lot of people have convinced themselves they'd be happy with this, understandably, after the last decade or so. I also think most of them are lying to themselves. Outside of Kiffin' first year, he has one 8+ games each year at Ole Miss. There is absolutely no reason, assuming it's true the money is finally going to be there for whoever, we shouldn't be able to do the same. Bowl games these days, outside of the playoffs don't mean shite. I personally don't care of we never go to another Liberty or Independence Bowl. Give me at least 7-8 wins most seasons with playoff appearance at least ever 4-5 years. In today's CFB, and with the expanded playoff, this should be very doable with the right guy whoever that may be.

Urban Meyer was actually at Powerhouse last weekend. Makes you wonder.

If so, they certainly chose the right patsy to get it out there.
