Anybody else just totally quit following the portal stuff the past few days? All the teasing and "sources" and hopium and everything else is just tiresome at this point.

It strongly appears Cal is kind of lost in portal recruiting. Wake me when something actually happens.

Thing is... I think people are just assuming we have a giant portal need that might not be there.

As of now it looks like we have these returning contributors in the backcourt

Knox
Billy
DJ

With guaranteed minutes to incoming freshmen

Acuff
Thomas

That's already 5 guys who figure to play a huge amount of minutes, for 3 lineup spots. And Sealy as depth.

Plus you have Ament, who probably projects to play at the 3 most of the time, who Cal really wants, and has made clear that his decision will be based on how the portal shapes out...

Now the frontcourt is a different story. But we have 2 guys (Ewin and Pringle) that are possibly silent commits at this point. Plus Rtail who's kind of an unknown but I'm guessing the staff sees a role for him.

Some of these "misses" look like really good players, but they don't necessarily have clear paths to playing a lot of minutes for us. I'm looking for Ewin to commit soon, and it would be nice to get Pringle as well, or another backup 5. That's pretty much all we need to have a rounded out roster, especially if we get Ament.

Cal may very well be lost in the portal right now....but, to me, it seems like he's working the local media to cover the staff's true intentions. Just like how no one knew last year that Nelly had visited.

This weekend alone within a 2-day span, local media with "sources" reported:

-Pierre is on campus
-Pierre is at Ole Miss, but is taking a visit to Arkansas as well
-Pierre is at SMU, but is taking a visit to Arkansas as well
-Pierre is expected to commit to Arkansas on Monday
-Pierre did not visit Arkansas and Arkansas was never recruiting him

I figure any real portal news will be broken through the national media.

I think it was mostly from Pierre's camp.

Him signing with SMU tells me that he had one goal from his recruitment - get as much $ as possible.

Floating the chicken man out there as an interested buyer is a great way to drive up prices.

I don't believe he ever visited us or was ever scheduled to

Plus we might have TB back too

I think if we lock in Pringle, Ewin, and a catch/shoot 3 point shooter we'll be in great shape assuming retention

Yep I didn't mention him because most of the controversy is about backcourt guys, but I think he's very likely to be back

I think we likely don't get the sharpshooter we all want. Maybe if DJ leaves, but who knows who will be left at that time. I would love to have Ian Jackson over DJ, personally

Yeah it's been very hard to get any decent guard with who we have there. Senior transfers want PT they aren't going to sit the bench and just be situational guys.

I'd imagine it's pretty easy to recruit against us when we already have Acuff Thomas Wagner Knox Richmond. Supposedly the staff is working hard to keep Wagner versus putting time or money to a transfer guard.

Adam Miller from Arizona State is the latest guard contact, he'd fit the role off the bench to provide a spark. About all we're going to get at the G position.

If we miss on Ewin I'm going to be a little worried. Pringle is a nice 4 to rotate with TB if he's staying, but we need a another 6'11" guy in our rotation for boards, blocks and lobs in transition and Ewin fits that perfectly.

This I agree with. We could still get another really good fit but we'd be behind the 8 ball at that point

Hey big portal guard, we'll give you 2 mil to come in and split time with two incoming freshmen and two returning starters.

That idea probably doesn't sit well with 4th yr players.

Way more moving parts to it than we care to acknowledge. Money isn't everything.

As long as Ewing & Pringle are in the fold I am fine.

This. That's what we really need. Been so much talk about Acuff, it seems people have forgotten about Thomas. I think Knox is going to light it up next year. He really came on at the end of the season and learned to use his size. Don't why he didn't get the ball more at the end of the TT game. If TB gets it to "click", then look out. I think Muss destroyed his psyche on top of the injury. I think a good sports psychologist could get him back to "Maui Trevon". Richmond staying is big.

I think Cal has his guys picked and is probably just waiting for portal to fill up and see if there are any luxuries we want. Laugh at me all you want, but TB could end up being our best outside shooter.

Knox may end up being a dead-eye shooter as well. If my math is correct, he was 20/43 from 3 (46.5%) over the last 17 games of the season.

Agree. Knox really showed out the end of the season. We have a really good core coming back from a team that was just better than TT, and TT should've beaten Florida. We were closer than most people think.

Knox, TB, and DJ will be incredible to see.

Looking forward to what cal cooks up.

We are not hurting at all, currently. We were just accustomed to the muss method of reaching out to every portal transfer... and bait and switching constantly. It was crazy, crazy good... then crazy bad.
