"In terms of pleasing the ol’ fanbase, Long has been hitting on all cylinders with his hires. And how’s that worked out for him?
Well, Petrino blew himself up with a scandal that could have left the University of Arkansas in legal trouble and Long without a job. The first-year of Bielema’s rebuild earned Arkansas its first-ever winless season in conference play and it’s first-ever nine-game losing streak in a single season."

The Petrino part is bullshite that article is trash.
Petrino was a strikeout? We were the most relevant in those 4 years than I can ever remember in my life. Most, if not all, Razorback fans would still take Petrino even you could time travel.
Who the hell wouldn't still take Petrino even knowing how it ends?
It's so overrated how that hurt our program, I just at this part.
Yeah fricking right, Petrino left this program in far better shape than he found it. National outside media overblow how much his frick buddy hurt the program so much.

You honestly think Petrino left us in better shape?
No fricking way.

It's stupid to evaluate the Bielema hire after one year solely on wins/losses. Really, really stupid.

Absofrickinglutely.
All this program knew before Petrino was 6-6 7-5 Houston fricking Nutt. We were a nobody.
Now this program demands 8-9-10 win seasons or calls for heads in a new coaches first year.

You're short sighted and let your Nutt hate get in the way. I hate the man also, but.....The roster was left with more talent when Nutt left versus when Petrino left. Especially on the defensive side of the ball and offensive line.
Nutt won 9 games or more 4 times. Played for conference title twice, and was a Stoerner stumble away from possibly playing for a national title.
Petrino wasn't going to be worth a shite these two years either. He got a fat contract. He got comfortable. He got cocky. He got lazy. He stopped recruiting.
And a big frick you UH for making me try and defend Houston Nutt.

I disagree, the 2012 team would have won another 9-10 games and finished highly ranked.
This 2013 team would have probably been 6-6 or 7-5 and been the first real "down year" Petrino would have had since his first year which is going to happen at Arkansas regardless of who the coach is.
You call it getting cocky and stopping recruiting, getting lazy, etc. It's Arkansas, you aren't going to win 9-10 games every year even with a top coach, in the SEC.
Bielema could build us into a power and win 9-10 games for a few years and then he'll also have a 6-7 win year.
Nutt ran the program into the ground, Mustain and Malzahn situation certainly helped. Fan base flying a flag to fire him over the stadium is probably as embarrassing as what Petrino did IMO.
Petrino built it back up and took it to places it had never been (BCS Bowl, 11 win season, Top 5 finish) that we may never see again. Yeah, I'd take that again in a heartbeat.

It's pointless to discuss but not a fricking chance that would have won more than 7.
No one could protect Tyler, Dennis Johnson would have barely played, Wingo would have pussyfooted his way 20 2.2 ypc, Knile's still fumbling that year, the Soph. class has given us little, and we'd have shitty 3* athletes getting arrested and raping chicks instead of Alex Collins and a promising group of big 4* linemen, and Hunter Henry would be at Bama too.
We got rid of Petrino in the nick of time with no buyout money spent. We'll look back and realize how lucky we were despite these 2 years being so painful.

Lol a top 10 preseason Arkansas team with Petrino still there wouldn't have won 7 or more games?
I'm not even going to begin.

Not going to get into the 'what shape he left us in' argument, but I don't doubt we would have won 2 to 4 more games each of the last two seasons than we did.
And who knows what talent might be on the roster now had Petrino still been here, no way we can 'know'. Might have gotten better, might not.
If we can keep recruiting linemen like CBB has, I like where he's going with the team. Just taking a little time to completely tear down and rebuild.

Top 10 pre season ranking was a mirage.
Team had a ton of holes and no WR threat outside of Hamilton. Gragg was still injured most of the year as was Davis.
Defense was still terrible.
7 wins IMO even with Petrino last season.

Not really.

Davis likely tanked the season moreso because of JLS, and Gragg getting hurt during the season could be put on the staff for weak workouts/practices, etc. No way of knowing.
Hamilton with Herndon and Horton as JR's in a real Petrino offense would have been plenty of firepower. Can't forget about Mekale McKay either who had a stellar 2012 season without Petrino. I don't buy that for a second sorry.

No different than any other Petrino year.

I'd go with 9.
Jacksonville State
UL-Monroe
Rutgers
Auburn
Kentucky
Ole Miss
Tulsa
MSU
LSU
Should have won all of those games with JLS to be honest, minus the MSU blowout all were close.

I agree Petrino teams would had at least outscored those teams badly

I'm over Petrino and I'm pretty over Long.
There was a few paragraphs of ruminations below that sentence, but I thought better, deleted them, and posted this sentence instead.

Ultimate, you.... uhhh, almost leave me speechless. WOW! "Most relevant in those 4 years"? Try one, perhaps two if you count the cotton bowl that takes 4th seed SEC
Who the hell wouldn't still take Petrino? Auburn, Georgia, Texas, USC Cali, MANY who value having a brand over a winning percentage, Have you seen Petrinos Recruiting rankings since joining Louis...? Plungerville is more like it. His recruiting here overall is very close to HDN's Rankings, and where he left this program is in the CHitter Period. 27 players from 2 recruiting classes gone under BP, Our depth is pathetic, our leadership no existent, Bobby Petrino set this program back more than he brought it forward. JMHO Of COurse.
Loved his games, enjoyed the offensive style, had dinner with he and 11 others prior to an event when he first was hired. One of the biggest liars I have ever met to this day. But, Carryon!

LOL wut?
Nutt won 10 games the year before he was fired, and was 8-4 the year he was shown the door, and I say that as someone who absolutely loathed him.
Stop acting like we were some bottom tier afterthought with no history before Petrino came along.
Petrino gave us one crappy year (which was on Nutt), a mediocre year (also on Nutt), and two great years. The BCS Bowl and Cotton Bowl win were great, but we paid dearly for it the last two years because of his recruiting. It's not like he was Bobby Bowden and built our program from nothing.

I meant who wouldn't go back to 2008 and still hire Petrino knowing the results.
I sure would.

Petrino did great things here. No doubt.
But the 2012 and 2013 seasons would have sucked, still, with him. I'm thinking they MIGHT have gone to a bowl game in 2012. 2013 still would have stunk.
Just look at the talent. The 2012 and 2013 teams, I'm GUESSING, probably had considerably fewer NFL prospects than the 2010 and 2011 teams.

To piggyback off of my post, why does everyone criticize Bielema's first year while simultaneously throwing out 2008 for Petrino?
Both had terrible first years here because of horrendous depth problems and a talent deficit left by their predecessor, and each had to play a ridiculous amount of freshmen and underclassmen as a result.
