quote:When Petrino was coach, I went to some of the open practices that were held south of the stadium where the Football Center is now. We were allowed to sit and watch from the edge of the field, and that was the first time I truly understood the caliber of athlete in Division I football. I saw people like Greg Childs running right by me at full speed, changing direction, turning at the last second, jumping, and catching balls they barely had time to see coming. I saw defensive ends that were 100 lbs heavier than me that could quite possibly beat me in a foot race.
You don't really realize how big some of these guys are until you stand next to them.
Almost unbelievable

As a HS coach I had the chance to go to spring practices at Arkansas, Miss. State, and 'Bama among others.
It's not just the linemen either. I got to watch Mark Ingram, Trent Richardson, and Eddie Lacy go through RB drills at 'Bama. Full grown men that are freak athletes.... not to mention Julio Jones on the other side of the field catching balls.
Scary how big and fast they are.

with development you will have Oline men and Dline men who are SEC capable as Juniors/Seniors.
Ever heard heard that old blues song 'Not fattenin' no more frogs for snakes'?
That's how a lot of coaches view developing players these days. Coach them up good and somebody will poach them after you did all the work.

Who was the linebacker during the Petrino stint that took on a Nissan and won?

It also helps they play an absolutely arse schedule.

I just don't think thats true anymore. The playing field of SEC depth has been irradicaed in two years. I think Texas Tech wins it all this year. Possibly A&M if their QB is healthy, but I like TTech currently
