What would Signing Day be without a surprise here and there? Arkansas received one on Wednesday when offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino extended a late offer and immediately added a new commitment to the Razorbacks' Class of 2024.

New Orleans (La.) Holy Cross wide receiver Krosse Johnson, 5-11, 170, announced a new offer from the Hogs early Wednesday morning and immediately followed with a commitment graphic. He chose the Razorbacks over offers from Indiana, Texas Tech, Tulane, and Louisiana. He is Arkansas' 17th verbal commitment for the 2024 class and has officially signed with the Hogs.

Johnson initially chose the home state Ragin' Cajuns on December 14 but reopened his recruitment just five days later.

Johnson is Arkansas' third wide receiver commitment of the cycle, joining three-star prospect CJ Brown of Bentonville (Ark.) and Top247 member Ashton Bethel-Roman of Missouri City (Texas) Ridge Point. The Razorbacks have been fighting to hold on to Bethel-Roman down the final stretch after he spent the weekend with the Texas A&M Aggies.

Arkansas missed a key in-state target on Tuesday when Pine Bluff (Ark.) four-star wide receiver Courtney Crutchfield chose the Missouri Tigers. The Razorbacks are expected to announce the signings of all 17 high school commitments and seven transfer commitments on Wednesday, the first day of the early signing period.

Arkansas got a signing day surprise on Wednesday as speedy 2024 two-star wide receiver Krosse Johnson signed with the Razorbacks.

Johnson de-committed from Louisiana-Lafayette on Tuesday, and made the switch to Razorback red on the first day of the early signing period.

The New Orleans native also had offers from Tulane, Texas Tech, Indiana and others. While he hasn’t reported an offer from the Razorbacks, he confirmed to HawgBeat he will be on scholarship.

Johnson is the third wide receiver commitment in the class of 2024, joining four-star Ashton Bethel-Roman and three-star CJ Brown.

For Holy Cross High School last season, Johnson brought in 13 receptions for 253 yards and two touchdowns. According to his X (formerly Twitter) bio, Johnson’s runs a 4.38 40-yard dash.

With Johnson’s signature, Arkansas is up to 16 total in the class of 2024.

Krosse Johnson is one of the most underrated players in the New Orleans area out of Holy Cross School.

On the season, Johnson has 30 receptions, 583 yards and six touchdowns. The 5-10, 170-pound senior wide receiver has offers from FBS programs such as Air Force, Indiana, Texas Tech, and Tulane. He also has offers from Columbia, South Dakota, Southeast Missouri State, Southern and Utah Tech.

Johnson is a major player in one of the greatest one-season turnarounds out of the New Orleans area in recent memory. have only won seven games the past three years, including a 1-6 season during the crazy year that was 2020. However, they have finished the 2023 regular season with a win-loss record of 8-2 and a Top-4 seed due to the three-headed monster that is Johnson, quarterback Cole Canatella and fellow wide receiver Koby Young who is a Georgia Tech commit.

Although he may be overshadowed at times because of Young, Johnson brings elite speed to this Holy Cross team. If you don’ t believe me, watch this touchdown reception where he bolted past St. Augustine’s defense for a 55-yard touchdown on Oct.7.

Johnson has a 40-time of 4.37. Moreover, he was the state champion in both the 100-meter and the 200-meter in the 2022 LHSAA Track and Field Championships where he ran a 10.54 in the 100m and a 21.07 in the 200m.

A lot of people think I ran track before I got into football but it’s vice versa,” Johnson said. “I ran track to prepare myself for the football season. Once I realized how good I was at track, I started to take it more seriously.”

Johnson began playing football when he was 10 years old at Girard Park in Metairie, a suburb right outside of New Orleans. To keep her son busy because of how rambunctious he was at home, Johnson’s mother was the one who made him play football.

“My mom wanted me to do something because I was very active when I was younger,” Johnson said. “Once she saw me on the field, then we kept going with it.”

Johnson tries to model his game off of New Orleans Saints wide receiver Chris Olave because of their similar skill sets.

“I have been watching Chris Olave since he was playing at Ohio State,” Johnson said. “He has elite speed and watching him helps me understand how to run better routes and how get past the defenders to get open.”

Few updates:

Only high school commits to not sign so far are Jeremy Cook & ABR.

Jeremy Cook not expected to sign today. Could be grades or processed.

Holding off A&M for ABR still

Shaw will commit & sign to someone on Jan 6 AA game. Seems like the Hogs as of now.
