Arkansas Razorbacks football wide receiver Sam Mbake is no longer with the team, HawgBeat learned Monday.

The sophomore receiver was dismissed from the team weeks ago, a team spokesperson told HawgBeat. The last game that Mbake was part of the Arkansas roster on the team's game notes was the Auburn game on Nov. 11.

A former three-star prospect in the class of 2022 according to Rivals, Mbake played primarily on special teams during his freshman season. He actually transitioned to defensive back for part of the year but did not see game action before moving back to wide receiver. Mbake has not recorded any offensive stats during his time in Fayetteville.

Heading into the 2023-24 season, Mbake was set to see an uptick in playing time but suffered a season-ending knee injury during a closed scrimmage. Prior to that, the Georgia native was receiving high praise from head coach Sam Pittman.

"Mbake is a wonderful person and he plays 90 miles per hour all the time and it’s important to him," Pittman said. "He has improved in every aspect of his game — speed, strength, awareness of what he’s doing. Mbake will be on the field as much as anybody this year. I really like the kid. He’s an awful hard worker."

It is unknown if Mbake has intentions to enter the transfer portal. All HawgBeat was told is that he is no longer a member of the Arkansas football team.

Sam Pittman and the Razorbacks landed one of the top-rated junior college tight end in the nation on Thursday in Gregory Genross of Dodge City (Kan.) Dodge City Community College. The Bronx (NY) native received an offer from tight ends coach Morgan Turner on November 8 and made an official visit in Fayetteville two weekends ago.

Genross, 6-7, 230, is a New York native and current sophomore with other offers from Houston, Mississippi State, West Virginia, Utah State, Texas State, Troy and New Mexico State. The three-star target will have two years of eligibility remaining in Fayetteville when he arrives in January.

Genross, the first commitment taken under new offensive coordinator Bobby Petrino, had plenty of positive things to say about his time in Fayetteville earlier this month.

"The visit was very nice," Genross said. "Definitely a big difference in facility-wise from JUCO. The environment was nice, the people were nice. I liked it and enjoyed it.

"I feel I could make a lot of big things in this offense," Genross said.

As a freshman in 2022, caught 10 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown in eight games played. So far this season, he's grabbed 12 receptions for 160 yards and 2 touchdowns through seven contests. According to 247Sports, Genross is the nation's top tight end in the junior college rankings and the No. 24 overall JUCO prospect in the Class of 2024.

The Razorbacks signed a total of four new tight ends in 2023 with two coming via the transfer portal and two others being added from the high school ranks. The Hogs have no current commitments or significant high school targets at the position in the 2024 cycle, and it had been questioned whether Arkansas would seek a tight end after the midseason dismissal of tight end-heavy offensive coordinator Dan Enos.

Arkansas gained some more help in the tight end room on Thursday, as Dodge City Community College tight end Gregory Genross committed to the Hogs.

Genross took an official visit to Fayetteville to watch the Razorbacks take down Florida International 44-20. He took to X (formerly Twitter) to make the announcement.

A native of the Bronx in New York City, Genross has spent the last two seasons at Dodge City Community College in southwest Kansas.

In the last two seasons for the Conquistadors, Genross has hauled in 25 total receptions for 264 yards and three touchdowns.

So far in eight games this season he's brought in 15 receptions for 172 yards and two scores.

Arkansas won out for Genross’ commitment over offers from West Virginia, Mississippi State, Houston, Troy and others.

Genross is Arkansas’ first tight end commitment in the 2024 class and the first from the junior college ranks.
