CB Kayin Lee decommitted from UGA and is expected to visit Arkansas.

Lee was the first CB we offered for 2023 and the first Bowman re-offered after talking with our 2023 CB commit Dallas Young.

Plays at same HS as 2023 LB commit Everett Roussaw and Hog players RB Rashod Dubinion and WR Jadon Haselwood.

Also the HS our RB coach Jimmy Smith was HC for a few years ago.

Both of these 2024 new 5*'s were on campus last weekend (March 5th).

DE COLIN SIMMONS

quote:

"To think Simmons has two more years of high school football is incredible because he's already a completely dominant force as an edge rusher. The Duncanville, Texas, prospect is so fast and powerful as a defensive end that many times the quarterback cannot fully get into his drop until insane pressure is coming his way and Simmons is headhunting.

"Already a physically-dominant force, Simmons' future is at defensive end but he can also play in space, drop when needed and his speed is exceptional for a sophomore in high school.

"Arkansas appeals to him because teammate and friend Jordan Crook signed there and is talking up the Razorbacks. Baylor is very much liked along with Oklahoma State and then Texas and Texas A&M will undoubtedly be battling for his commitment as well." - Adam Gorney, National Recruiting Director

quote:

WR RYAN WINGO

quote:

"There was little doubt about whether Wingo would end up a five-star; the real question was when he would be officially minted one of the top players in his class. Wingo didn't have to wait long.

"He has a phenomenal combination of size and skill to go along with legit speed backed up by his track times. The WR prospect out of SLUH, Mo., is a Swiss Army Knife on the field as he is capable of dominating a game in so many different ways.

"Wingo will likely have his choice of any school in the country when it comes time for him to sign and I expect his number of offers to expand exponentially in the coming months. While there is plenty of time left in Wingo's recruiting process, Texas A&M, Texas, Missouri, Oregon, Arkansas and Michigan State appear to be the early leaders for his pledge." - Clint Cosgrove, National Recruiting Analyst

1. DE Colin Simmons

quote:

Gorney's Take: The No. 1 player in the 2024 class is so dominant off the edge for his Duncanville team that quarterbacks can hardly get into their drops and Simmons is there to cause problems. He is phenomenal using speed off the edge to beat offensive tackles but he can also bull-rush through them or use violent hands to get inside.

Simmons lives in the backfield either sacking the quarterback, creating incredible pressure or rushing the offense into something it doesn’t want to do.

Arkansas, Texas, Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma State and others are involved early.

quote:

3. WR Ryan Wingo

quote:

Gorney's Take: Ryan Wingo has all the tools of a special wide receiver as he lines up in the slot, lines up outside, even lines up in the backfield sometimes as his team looks for every way possible to get the ball in his hands.

The St. Louis (Mo.) University standout has a big catch radius, great hands and better-than-average speed to separate himself from defensive backs, plus great balance down the sideline.

His brother, Ronnie, played at Arkansas and then Texas A&M is definitely up there with Missouri, Notre Dame, Oregon and others involved early on.

Carrollton (Texas) Hebron linebacker/edge Carson Dean has committed to the Arkansas Razorbacks for the Class of 2023. Dean, 6-4, 235, went public with his decision on Monday, two days after visiting and receiving an offer from Sam Pittman’s program.

Dean, who was recruited by linebackers coach Michael Scherer, chose the Razorbacks over Texas, LSU, Baylor, TCU, Texas Tech and many others. His commitment is No. 10 for the Hogs’ 2023 class, which ranks third nationally and first in the SEC.

Dean, who owns a 10.7 in the 100-meter dash, made his decision after being blown away during Saturday’s prospect day.

"It was my best visit yet,” Dean said Saturday night. “The love and hospitality I got was crazy and I’ve experienced nothing like it anywhere else. I really liked getting to talk football with the coaches and them telling me how I would fit in their program. They are very high on my list."

According to the 247Sports Composite rankings, Dean is a three-star prospect, the No. 35 edge rusher in the country, and the No. 72 overall target in Texas for the 2023 cycle. 247Sports lists him as the No. 54 edge rusher and No. 108 in the Lone Star State.

Carrollton (Texas) Hebron EDGE Carson Dean has committed to Arkansas, he announced Monday evening on social media.

Dean is the No. 557 prospect in the 2023 class, according to the On3 Consensus, a complete and equally weighted industry-generated average that utilizes all four major recruiting media companies. He ranks as the nation’s No. 47 EDGE and the No. 101 prospect in Texas.

As a junior, Carson Dean put together a productive campaign with 86 tackles, 10 sacks, 2 forced fumbles, a pick-six, 25 tackles for loss, and over 30 reported QB pressures in 11 games.

He chose the Razorbacks — who offered him just two days ago — over offers from Texas, Texas Tech, LSU, Baylor, Ole Miss and nearly a dozen other programs. He Arkansas over the weekend along with a number of other prospects and came away with a prized offer that he decided to pounce on.

The 6-foot-3, 220-pound Dean is Arkansas’ 10th commitment in the 2023 class, joining a class headlined by four-star tight ends Luke Hasz, Shamar Easter and Jaden Hamm. The Razorbacks’ crop ranks No. 6 nationally and No. 3 in the SEC, according to the On3 Consensus Team Recruiting Rankings.

These sites make it clear that Arkansas has too many 4-stars so drop them under the threshold so the team ranking will drop when other teams add commits.

Quincy Rhodes drop from 5.8 4-star on Rivals to 5.7 3-star on Rivals dropped his 247 Composite 4-star.

On3 dropped Easter a point from 95 to 94 grade. They also dropped Jaden Hamm and Dallas Young from 90 grade 4-star and 91 grade 4-star respectively to 89 grade 3-stars.

Almost all our previously unranked commits got placed in the 87-88 grade 3-star range.

The Top247 rankings for the Class of 2023 were updated on Wednesday and include several targets being pursued by Sam Pittman and the Arkansas Razorbacks.

Here's a look at where the Hogs' notable recruits stand in the rankings:

quote:

No. 26 - Cedric Baxter Jr. | RB | Orlando (Fla.) Edgewater - Baxter rose 14 spots and went from a 94 to a 95 overall. He made an unofficial trip to Fayetteville last July and attended Arkansas' win over Texas A&M in Arlington last September.

No. 42 - Chandavian Bradley | E | Platte City (Mo.) - Bradley visited Northwest Arkansas for the Razorbacks' win over Missouri in late November. He has one Crystal Ball logged thus far, in favor of USC. Bradley saw no change in his ranking this time around.

No. 45 - Johntay Cook II | WR | DeSoto (Texas) - Cook, who made a trip to see the Hogs last year, also saw no change in this round of rankings.

No. 57 - Markis Deal | OL | Garland (Texas) Naaman Forest - Deal, who visited the Razorbacks last fall and is expected back this spring, rose from No. 74 in the nation and moved from a 93 to a 94 grade.

No. 62 - Bai Jobe | E | Norman (Okla.) Community Christian - Jobe also rose from a 93 to 94 and moved up three spots in the overall rankings. He camped at Arkansas last June but things have been quiet of late.

No. 63 - Charles Jagusah | OL | Rock Island (Ill.) Alleman - Like Deal, Jagusah also saw a big jump in the rankings as he goes from 92 to 63 with a grade increase from 93 to 94. Jagusah will be back in Fayetteville for a second visit later this spring.

No. 79 - Isaiah Robinson | OL | Arlington (Texas) Lamar - Robinson made a big jump as well, going from No. 100 all the way to 79th overall while moving from a 92 to a 93. He was scheduled to visit Fayetteville in January but did not make the trip.

No. 84 - Tackett Curtis | LB | Many (La.) - Curtis has visited the Razorbacks a couple of times and will likely return to Fayetteville at some point. However, he's focusing his spring trips on places he hasn't visited yet. Curtis went from No. 109 to No. 84 and moved up to a 93 grade this time around.

No. 85 - Luke Hasz | TE | Bixby (Okla.) - Hasz was previously listed at No. 72 but had some new targets pass him in this round of rankings. He kept his same overall grade of 93, however. Hasz committed to the Razorbacks in January.

No. 92 - Madden Sanker | OL | Douglasville (Ga.) South Paulding - Sanker moves down just a few spots from No. 89 but also keeps his grade of 93. He will give Arkansas an official visit in June.

No. 123 - Braxton Myers | S | Coppell (Texas) - Myers, who is expected to visit Arkansas this spring, moves down 17 spots this time around. He has one Crystal Ball prediction logged in favor of Clemson.

No. 127 - Micah Tease | WR | Tulsa (Okla.) Washington - This Tulsa native drops a few spots from No. 121 in the previous rankings. Tease has been on Arkansas' campus a couple of times.

No. 144 - Shamar Easter | TE | Ashdown (Ark.) - Like Hasz, Easter had a few new targets pass him in the rankings but didn't necessarily "drop" from No. 126. He also kept his player grade of 92 overall.

No. 150 - Kelby Collins | DL | Gardendale (Ala.) - Collins, who is expected to visit with Arkansas cornerback commitment Dallas Young later this spring, goes from No. 134 to 150 this time around.

No. 159 - Treyaun Webb | RB | Jacksonville (Fla.) - Webb, who has received Crystal Ball picks logged for Georgia, Oklahoma, and South Carolina, will be on Arkansas' campus this Saturday. He moves down 12 spots compared to the previous ranking.

No. 166 - Mikal Harrison-Pilot | WR | Temple (Texas) - Harrison-Pilot is one of Arkansas' most wanted wideout targets in the 2023 cycle. He moved up 5 spots in this round.

No. 168 - Avery Johnson | QB | Maize (Kan.) - Johnson, who has made three unofficial trips to see the Hogs, was previously listed at No. 153 overall.

No. 170 - Jamel Johnson | S | Arlington (Texas) Seguin - This Texas commitment is considering an Arkansas visit this spring. Johnson was previously ranked No. 159 overall.

No. 182 - Roderick Kearney | OL | Orange Park (Fla.) - Continuing the trend of Arkansas O-line targets moving up in the rankings, Kearney went from No. 217 all the way to No. 182 this time. He is expected to be in Fayetteville later this spring.

No. 184 - Robert Stafford | ATH | Melbourne (Fla.) Eau Gallie - Stafford has visited Arkansas twice. He moves down 16 spots in this round.

No. 189 - Malachi Singleton | QB | Kennesaw (Ga.) North Cobb - Singleton went up 9 spots this time around. He visited Fayetteville last fall and will return in April.

No. 209 - Kayin Lee | CB | Ellenwood (Ga.) Cedar Grove - Lee, who recently de-committed from Georgia, was previously listed at No. 197. Arkansas is considered one of the teams in strong contention to land his signature.

No. 224 - Kayden McDonald | DL | Suwanee (Ga.) North Gwinnett - McDonald moves up one spot this time, and he'll have his entire family with him next week when he visits Fayetteville.

No. 233 - Jalen Thompson | DL | Detroit (Mich.) Cass Tech - Thompson, who is staying in touch with Arkansas on a weekly basis lately, moves down from No. 212.

No. 235 - Rashid Williams | WR | Pittsburg (Calif.) - Williams, who said last week that he'll be visiting Arkansas in April, went from outside the Top247 to No. 235 this time.

No. 236 - John Randle Jr. | ATH | Wichita (Kan.) Heights - Randle made the trip to Fayetteville last fall. He was previously at No. 193 overall.

4-STAR IOL RODERICK KEARNEY (UNCOMMITTED)

quote:

New Top247 Ranking: No. 182

Previous: No. 217

Recently named the offensive line MVP of the Under Armour All-America Camp in Miami, Roderick Kearney continues to build off an impressive junior campaign. The Orange Park (Fla.) native has seen some time at both tackle positions, but he'll more than likely play inside at the collegiate level. Kearney brings to the table a stout frame and the athleticism to play in space.

quote:

4-STAR OL LUCAS SIMMONS (UNCOMMITTED)

quote:

New Top247 Ranking: No. 136

Previous: Unranked

Recently named 247Sports’ 'Alpha Dog' at the Under Armour All-America Camp in Miami, Lucas Simmons wasn’t going to be denied a spot in the Top247. At 6-foot-7 and around 300-pounds, Simmons carries a beautiful frame to go along with excellent athletic ability at the offensive tackle position. Originally from Sweden and relatively new to the sport, Simmons will need to continue to develop over the next few years to reach his full potential. That said, you’d have a difficult time finding a prospect with better clay to mold in this year’s class.

For evidence of Arkansas’ recent success on the field bleeding into the recruiting trail, look no further than the initial Rivals250 for the Class of 2024 that was released Tuesday.

The Razorbacks already have one top-200 recruit committed in Hot Springs Lakeside running back Braylen Russell, who debuted at No. 187, and have had numerous others on campus over the last 12 months.

That includes hosting two of the top three overall prospects — Duncanville, Texas, defensive end Colin Simmons (No. 1) and St. Louis, Mo., University wide receiver Ryan Wingo (No. 3) — over the weekend for the latest Prospect Day.

Both recruits were seriously considered for the top spot in the rankings and are genuinely interested in Arkansas at this early stage of their recruitment.

For Simmons, as well as safety Ka’Davion Dotson (No. 86), the pull is an opportunity to reunite with high school teammate Jordan Crook, a linebacker signee in the 2022 class who has enrolled early and will go through spring practice.

Wingo is actually an Arkansas legacy, as his older brother, Ronnie Jr., played for the Razorbacks from 2009-12. It’s also worth noting that his other brother, Raymond, played at Missouri under current Arkansas defensive coordinator Barry Odom.

The Razorbacks have signed only three five-star recruits straight out of high school during the Rivals era (Darren McFadden, Mitch Mustain and Darius Winston) and added two others as transfers (Ryan Mallett, Jadon Haselwood).

The last time Arkansas was a serious contender for the top overall prospect on Rivals was in 2012, when Dorial Green-Beckham broke the Razorbacks’ hearts by picking Missouri on National Signing Day.

Those two are far from the only high-profile recruits head coach Sam Pittman has convinced to make the trip to Fayetteville, though. In fact, they aren’t the only top-10 prospects, as quarterback DJ Lagway (No. 7) attended Arkansas’ win over Mississippi State last season.

There are also two in-state prospects in the Rivals250. In addition to Russell, who’s already committed, Little Rock Christian quarterback Walker White checked in at No. 147.

He has yet to receive an offer from the Razorbacks, but he has been to Fayetteville multiple times and told HawgBeat that the coaches told him they’ll continue to monitor him throughout the process. White comes from a family of Razorbacks, as both of his older brothers (John David - football; Zac - baseball), father (David - golf), uncle (John Aaron Rees - football), grandfather (John Rees - football) and great-grandfather (Harold “Greasy” Rees - football) played at the UA.

Here’s a rundown of prospects in the 2024 Rivals250 that HawgBeat knows of that visited Arkansas or have been visited by Arkansas coaches…

quote:

No. 1 - Colin Simmons - DE - Duncanville (Texas)

No. 3 - Ryan Wingo - WR - St. Louis (Mo.) University

No. 7 - DJ Lagway - QB - Willis (Texas)

No. 18 - Kavion Henderson - DE - Leeds (Ala.)

No. 44 - Adrian Posse - QB - Miami (Fla.) Columbus

No. 56 - Payton Pierce - LB - Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy

No. 63 - Maurice Williams - S - Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek

No. 70 - Tylen Singleton - ATH - Many (La.)

No. 86 - Ka’Davion Dotson - S - Duncanville (Texas)

No. 134 - Xadavien Sims - DE - Denison (Texas)

No. 138 - KingJoseph Edwards - ATH - Buford (Ga.)

No. 147 - Walker White - QB - Little Rock (Ark.) Christian

No. 187 - Braylen Russell - RB - Hot Springs (Ark.) Lakeside - COMMITTED

No. 191 - Melvin Laster Jr. - LB - Liberty (Mo.) North

DJ LAGWAY, 2024 QB

quote:

"Gamer" is a word that came up when discussing DJ Lagway, a stoutly built emerging quarterback prospect from Willis (Texas) High School. Already in the 6-foot-2, 215-pound range, Lagway has three-sport experience (baseball, basketball) and averaged 4.9 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 1.6 blocks on varsity as a freshman in the 2020-21 hoops campaign. As a sophomore this past fall, Lagway led Willis to a Class 6A Division II second-round playoff appearance as he threw for 1,579 yards, 17 touchdowns, and two interceptions on a 55.5 completion rate, in addition to 715 rushing yards and six scores on 5.6 yards per carry.

Lagway's size and athleticism result in serious velocity and vertical arm strength, plus big-play ability as a runner. Lagway, another Top247 candidate in the 2024 cycle, flashes off-platform, improvisational ability that serves him well. The son of a former Baylor running back, Lagway has already garnered a lengthy list of offers.

Arkansas Targets in Top247 for 2024

quote:

247Sports has released its initial Top247 rankings for the Class of 2024, and the list includes several prospects who are already closely linked to the Arkansas Razorbacks. Here's a closer look at the names to know, including instate targets, players who have already visited the Hogs, and the Razorbacks' only verbal pledge for the 2024 cycle
:

quote:

12 - KingJoseph Edwards | DL | Buford (Ga.) - Made a trip to Fayetteville last fall and said earlier this week that he'll be back on the Hill in June.

19 - Ryan Wingo | WR | St. Louis (Mo.) University - Younger brother of former Razorback Ronnie Wingo Jr. has visited Arkansas multiple times and will be expected to make more trips to Fayetteville throughout the rest of his recruitment. The Hogs are considered a strong contender early on.

35 - Tylen Singleton | S | Many (La.) - Singleton was blown away by his first trip to Arkansas last month and said he will definitely be back for a second look. He is teammates with 2023 four-star linebacker and major Arkansas target Tackett Curtis.

46 - DJ Lagway | QB | Willis (Texas) - It's still very early and Lagway will visit a ton of schools, but the Razorbacks are already seen as a major player in his recruitment following his second trip to Fayetteville.

52 - Colin Simmons | DE | Duncanville (Texas) - Simmons was one of several big-time 2024 targets who made their way to the UA for a prospect day visit in March, and he has plans of returning later in the year.

59 - Xadavien Sims | DL | Sherman (Texas) - Sims was on Arkansas' campus for a camp visit last June, but it seems things have gone quiet between the two parties lately.

60 - Maurice Williams | S | Pearland (Texas) Shadow Creek - Williams also visited the Hogs last summer and had multiple reschedules this offseason, but says he still plans to be back for another visit soon.

161 - Walker White | QB | Little Rock (Ark.) Christian - White is an in-state target and younger brother of former Razorback wide receiver John David White. He has yet to be offered by the Hogs but is being closely monitored by the staff. Walker has made multiple trips to the Hill.

169 - Payton Pierce | LB | Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy - There's plenty of competition, but Arkansas has to love its position thus far with Pierce. He plans to be back on campus on April 23 for another visit with Sam Pittman's staff. Pierce works out with former Razorback running back Jonathan Williams.

223 - Kavion Henderson | DL | Leeds (Ala.) - Arkansas has already received a Crystal Ball prediction for Henderson, who is coming off his second trip to Fayetteville last month and will be back for a third visit soon. Henderson is close friends with 2023 Razorback pledge Dallas Young.

245 - Ka'Davion Dotson | CB | Duncanville (Texas) - Dotson has already received a Crystal Ball pick to the Hogs after making two trips to Arkansas on back-to-back weekends in March.

246 - Melvin Laster | LB | Liberty (Mo.) North - Laster has already made multiple trips to the UA and said recently that he's working to get back to Fayetteville again soon.

247 - Braylen Russell | RB | Hot Springs (Ark.) Lakeside - Russell is Arkansas' lone commitment to start the 2024 class. He's also one of the most notable running back prospects to come out of the Natural State in several years.

MOUNTAIN MAN: Connor Stroh

quote:

Stroh is huge. There’s no other way to put it. Measuring at nearly 6-foot-7 and 352 pounds, the four-star offensive lineman from Frisco (Texas) Wakeland takes up a lot of space and is not afraid to be physical. Stroh did have some issues with speed to the outside but he’s so massive that defensive ends have to take the scenic route around him to get to the quarterback. By the time they get there the ball would easily be out.

quote:

TOUGH GUY AWARD: Carson Dean

quote:

Up until the morning of camp, Dean was unsure if he would make it. A nagging hamstring injury has not healed yet but the Carrollton (Texas) Hebron four-star linebacker also wanted to compete in the only state of Texas stop on the Rivals Camp tour this offseason. Dean toughed through it and performed really well as he showed off his length, his ability to stay with running backs deep into routes and then he had the timing to knock down passes to turn in an excellent showing.

quote:

YOUNG BUCK: Kane Archer

quote:

Arkansas, Michigan and Missouri have already offered 2026 quarterback Kane Archer so he’s on the radar of some programs but he’s not even in high school yet so the Greenwood, Ark., standout has a lot of time to develop. He’s already getting there. In a solid quarterback group, Archer more than held his own, delivered the ball all over the field with precision, played with confidence and has long arms so he should continue to grow in the coming years. Archer is definitely a young QB to watch on the national level.

quote:

Arkansas commit Kaleb James had his moments

LINK

quote:

Harrison-Pilot is among the top athletes in the state of Texas, able to make an impact on the field from just about anywhere. The Rivals100 prospect is being recruited primarily as a wide receiver, but he noted that Oregon is looking at him to play defensive back.

An Austin-area product, Texas is in a strong position to earn one of his five official visits while Houston has the legacy factor in its favor, with his father having played for the Cougars. Arkansas and Michigan are additional programs in the mix for the do-it-all playmaker. The four-star plans to start taking his official visits in the summer. – Patterson

quote:

Stroh was also fresh off a visit to Texas A&M for its spring game, and it stood out to the 6-foot-7, 345-pound tackle whose parents both went to the university. He was able to earn an offer while in College Station and it has them squarely in the mix moving forward along with Texas and Arkansas.

The summer will help determine a lot in his recruitment with official visits expected to the aforementioned programs along with Stanford. – Harris

quote:

Parker burst onto the scene in a big way during his junior season at Lucas (Texas) Lovejoy, grabbing offers from Arizona, Penn State and Pitt last fall. Arkansas, Louisville, Mississippi State and Texas have since offered this spring and have all entered the mix.

Parker has taken recent visits to Louisville, Penn State and Texas, and was at Mississippi State this past Saturday, where Mike Leach and the Bulldogs made a strong impression. Louisville and Texas appear to be ahead of the rest of the pack right now, with Arkansas looking to enter the mix with a visit in the near future. – Patterson

Malachi Singleton locked in his third visit to the Hill. Gotta think he’s on commit watch at this point.

These sites make it clear that Arkansas has too many 4-stars so drop them under the threshold so the team ranking will drop when other teams add commits.
