I think it had something to do with the academic staff he wanted to bring when Frank said yes but John White said no.

He wanted to bring his full administrative staff and Acedemic staff. He wanted to create new positions for support staff rolls. You have to remember this is before Saban and bama started doing this.

He was told no. Of course this was leaked out as being the reason why he went back to Creighton and "all" the players were academically ineligible was the excuse used to explain the Pelphrey hiring.

Really it was the athletic department and university refusing to invest and increase the budget for staff to be competitive in hiring a coach. Sutton and Nolan didn't need all of that to be competitive so it must not be needed, ignore the decades that had passed in the mean time.

Football wasn't any better, old outdated technology for film etc.

Sure it worked, but when everyone else is on blueray and streaming and your still using vhs it makes you seem low tier compared to your competition.

It took a new AD to advance the program in all the shite that "doesn't matter" it would have never happened with Frank's great depression/WWII era mindset of conservation and having just enough to get by.

quote:

A four-star point guard at Norman (Okla.) North, Jeremiah Johnson is glad to be back on the floor and is in pursuit of a State Championship as his recruitment continues to take shape.

Pushing 6-foot-4, Johnson is currently ranked No. 38 nationally by 247Sports and is rounding into form after missing the last part of his sophomore season and the summer of 2021 due to injury.

“Going into the season I really wanted to see if I could just get back out there and play at as high a level as I did in years prior," Johnson told 247Sports. "That was the main thing, to see if I could do that. Once I saw that the goals started to come into play like most importantly wanting to win State for my team. Also, the personal goals of trying to do this much offensively, this much defensively and try to win State player of the year and stuff like that."

A point guard with size and length, Johnson looked a little rusty when 247Sports was able to watch him during the early part of the season. Since then he's become more assertive, started to add back some of his athleticism and is much more confident. He's glad to be getting back to 100% but is even more proud of the steps his team has taken and a win on Friday night would send them to next week's State Tournament.

“In November I was probably at about a six of what I could do and now I think I’m at maybe an eight and a half," said Johnson. "I could still get better especially getting back to where I was strength and athletic wise, but it is almost there.

“Most people on our team this is really their first year of playing varsity basketball. The fact that we’ve come together and now we are really getting it team wise and now we are winning at the right time.”

quote:

Arkansas: “Arkansas is my most recent visit. I’ve taken two there. Their energy level, I’m not really surprised they are winning so much because when you watch their practice it is like a pro practice. They practice like NBA players, so I’m not surprised that they are beating big teams. They tell me they can see me coming and producing.”

There’s talk on the Louisville boards that Altman may get fired and Oregon will then go after their top target Kenny Payne.

I believe technically yes.

Wasn't there a USC QB that entered the portal after a week of spring practice like a year or two ago?

They would be out of their damn minds to fire Altman after 1 missed NCAAT in 4 years. 8 NCAAT trips in his last 10 years at Oregon and two Sweet 16's in the last 3 years.

But if they did, Kelel could def get out of that NLI.

I say call up TCU and get that Lampkin guy to transfer in. 6’11 260 and he is a beast. Just beat the heck out of everybody down low last night. And this year was his first full year as a redshirt freshman.

He has to enter the portal first. I know other teams tamper, but I honestly believe our staff doesn't.

What does our starting 5 look like next year?

Smith, Walsh, jaylin, Devo and who else?

Are Notae and/or Toney returning? Would we have spots if they do? Or would someone need to transfer?

I've heard Toney may return, unlikely on Notae though. His stock, even for overseas contracts, will never be higher even though he could improve in a few areas.

Toney would be a nice returner. Love how he (and Umude) play with toughness and have good builds.

Also, can any of these incoming recruits shoot the 3?
I would love for Devo to work on that part of his game this off-season. Having a true shooter in our offense would take us next level
