Being honest, I’ve had a low opinion of cal since he was at memphis state and continued into his Kentucky tenure until his results became mediocre for that program. I figured he was able to lure the best talent but couldn’t coach them up enough to their full potential.

Now I’m in a quandary. My mind won’t change about his coaching until he proves me wrong, but I’m more than happy to have gotten a coach to come in and give us a competitive roster right off the bat with the great chance of more coming.

Heck, we were talking about bringing in Chris Jans to come in and fill an empty roster.

I’ll put my personal feelings aside and call this a win without hesitation now.

How did some of you other fans feel about him before there was ever any hint of this happening. Just curious.

I think Cal is an upgrade across the board from Muss, and Muss got us to back to back Elite 8's so who knows where Cal can take us, Final 4? Natty?

Cal adjusting his strategy and getting some veteran experienced transfers puts to rest any roster issues or too much youth and the 'he can't use NIL/portal' talk. Payne back on staff is also big for him.

We will start in the top 15-10 range next season and we basically replaced our entire program. Very few could do that.

I was disappointed in muss last season, not just because of the results but he seemed different. Like the fire had gone out. I was surprised he left but for some reason I wasn’t terribly disappointed when I probably should have been. But I wasn’t disappointed when Eddie crawled to Kentucky either and that eventually worked out pretty good.

I’m looking forward to seeing what happens which isn’t how I’d probably feel with the other options.

This team is loaded.

I was shocked and in utter heaven because of the disbelief of KY fans, espn, etal.

I was pleased to see that he is now doing what KY wanted all along, PORTAL CAL! ANd his plan seems to be fairly well thought out fmho of a complete novice, lol.

Just reading the KY fans on twitter after this was glorious. I honestly never thought they would act such way, when they claim to have wanted him gone forever.

I like the roster, the staff, and looking forward to the season~

Like yall said it felt like Muss was halfway out the door all season. His teams regressed a bit last two years (two years ago mainly due to injury tho). His teams were supposed to be defensive minded teams and we were not that anymore. When he left wasn’t shocked and thought we had Beard locked up who is who I wanted when we got Muss so I was happy either way. When Beard (allegedly we offered or not) signed to stay with Ole Miss I was down and all the negahogs came out of the woodworks, woah is me poor little Arkansas can’t do anything right, making it worst especially when we were looking at Jans and Walker. Hunter nutting up (or at least not tripping over his own dick) and hiring a top 10 minimum national coach immediately gave us more national attention than both of Muss’s elite 8s. It’s been gravy since then. Not sure how I like the 9-10 NIL spots only but we’ll see what happens.

Kentucky was putting unreasonable restrictions on portal guys academic wise and who they would allow to transfer in.

Then they were apparently behind Arkansas in the NIL game, somehow, as if that was actually possible.

They are the basketball version of Notre Dame, relying on accomplishments pre Korean War and acting like that was just yesterday.

I wouldn't say across the board. When the tournament came we could see how Muss and his team would know everything about the opponent and would game plan specifically for that. Execution was on point.

We do need to thank Muss for getting us back to national relevance again though (despite last season's issues.)

His issues really started the year before with the mismanagement of several players. But yes thankful for those 2 runs, hampered by 3 of 5 seasons under .500 in the SEC and 8-10 6-12 the last 2 seasons.

A priority target for John Calipari and Arkansas basketball in the 2025 recruiting class is on the move. Meleek Thomas, a 5-star prospect and the No. 6 overall composite player in the cycle, will spend his final year of high school basketball with Overtime Elite (OTE), he announced on Tuesday.

Previously, 6-4, 175-pound guard was playing for Lincoln Park Performing Arts Charter School in his hometown of Midland, PA near Pittsburgh. According to ESPN's Jonathan Givony, Thomas is making the move in order to focus more on basketball and his college recruitment.

One of the top prospects in the 2025 recruiting class is no longer considering John Calipari and Arkansas. Will Riley, a composite 5-star forward and the No. 21 player in the country, made a major change to his top five list and replaced the Razorbacks with Illinois.

This past weekend, Riley wrapped up an official visit with Brad Underwood and the Fighting Illini, which was enough to leapfrog the Hogs after including them in his original list back on April 24. The rest of Riley's top five — Alabama, Arizona, Kentucky and the NBL's New Zealand Breakers — remained unchanged.

Riley was originally offered a scholarship by former Arkansas head coach Eric Musselman. At Kentucky, Calipari and staff had already been heavily recruiting Riley, so there wasn't significant ground to made up after the coaching changes in April.

One important detail of Riley's recruitment could provide some context behind Monday's news. Former Kentucky assistant, Orlando Antigua, is now at Illinois on Underwood's coaching staff. Antigua served as Calipari's top assistant with the Wildcats last season and has a strong relationship with Riley from recruiting him while in Lexington.

While the Razorbacks may not be in the running for Riley, they are very involved with other top 2025 recruits. Here's a closer look at three names in next year's class to keep an eye on moving forward.

Darius Acuff Jr. | 6-3, 180, CG | 5-star, #4 OVR, #1 PG

Razorback fans should be familiar with Acuff after the talented guard took an official visit to Arkansas just two weekends ago after a scholarship offer in mid-April. Acuff is the top point guard prospect in the 2025 class, and currently turning heads on the EYBL 17U circuit, averaging 24.0 points, 2.6 rebounds and 2.6 assists per game on 49/36/88 shooting splits this spring.

The Detroit native's offer list includes most top programs in the country, but Acuff recently stated he didn't plan on taking anymore visits following trips to Kansas and Arkansas over the last two months. The Razorbacks and Jayhawks are said to be the two favorites in his recruitment after Michigan, his home-state program, and Kentucky have both lost ground of late.

AJ Dybantsa | 6-9, 200, SF | 5-star, #1 OVR, #1 SF

The consensus No. 1 prospect in the 2025 recruiting class is continuing to turn heads on the grassroots circuits as his recruitment heats up. Dybantsa had a decent showing at the fourth Nike EYBL session in Kansas City this past weekend, including knocking down a buzzer-beating three to secure the win on Friday.

Dybantsa is currently the fourth-leading scorer on the EYBL circuit, averaging 22.5 points to go along with 6.2 rebounds. He's being pursued by almost every major program in the country, but Arkansas, Auburn, Kentucky and North Carolina are said to be most-heavily involved right now. Calipari and the Razorbacks extended an offer to Dybantsa in mid-April and have been making a strong push since.

"I got an offer about a week ago, not even. Cal reached out, Chin [Coleman] reached out and I got an offer," Dybantsa told 247 Sports National Basketball Director Eric Bossi recently. "He said same 'brand, different location.' He said they're going to keep coaching the same way, keep doing things the same way but it's just a different location."

Meleek Thomas | 6-4, 175, CG | 5-star, #9 OVR, #1 CG

Thomas was a major target for Calipari at Kentucky and that interest level hasn't changed with his move to Arkansas. Arguably the best scorer in the 2025 class, Thomas is a consensus 5-star prospect and rated the No. 6 overall player, according to the industry-generated Composite Rankings.

This past weekend at the Kansas City EYBL session, Thomas averaged 21.4 points, 4.8 rebounds, 2.4 assists and 1.8 steals across five games. His scoring efficiency wasn't what it has been of late, as he shot 32 of 77 (41.5%) from the floor and 11 of 39 (28.2%) from distance. But his offensive output remained consistent while he produced in other areas of the game.

Calipari and Arkansas are serious contenders in the recruitment of Thomas after offering him a scholarship on April 19. The Midland (Pa.) native is set to take an official visit to Fayetteville on June 25-27. The Razorbacks are battling Auburn, Connecticut, Indiana, Illinois, Kansas, Miami and a host of others, but they remain in a very good spot for Thomas.

1. SF A.J. Dybantsa

Cassidy's Take: AJ Dybantsa has topped the Rivals150 since it was first released and retains the top spot this time around. The long, versatile wing is a near lock to be a lottery selection in the 2026 NBA Draft and is becoming a more well-rounded prospect as he further refines his already solid shooting ability.

He recently took a visit to BYU and is considering a number of other programs, including but not limited to USC, Auburn, UConn, Kansas and North Carolina.

2. PF Cameron Boozer

Cassidy's Take: One of Duke legend Carlos Boozer’s twin sons, Cameron Boozer retains the No. 2 spot in this update and is closing the gap on the top spot with a consistency of production that is rare for a high school prospect.

The 6-foot-9 forward is one of the most dominant players in high school basketball and has diversified his offensive game by becoming a more reliable long-range threat in the last year.

Duke is considered the frontrunner to land the legacy prospect, but Miami and Arkansas are also involved.

3. SG Darryn Peterson

Cassidy's Take: The top guard in the 2026 class, Darryn Peterson’s explosiveness and true three-level scoring ability pop off the page. He’s taken massive strides as a defender this year, however, as he possesses the athleticism and size to match up with nearly any opponent.

He recently turned in one of the top performances at adidas Eurocamp and solidified himself as a top-tier prospect in the process.

Peterson is considering schools such as North Carolina, Arkansas, Kansas and Ohio State.

4. PF Caleb Wilson

Cassidy's Take: The 6-foot-9 Caleb Wilson is a floor-spacing power forward that fits the modern NBA game like a glove. He routinely impacts games on the boards and handles the ball better than most players of his size. Defensively, his upside is unlimited, as his long wingspan and athleticism make him an ultra-versatile weapon.

Schools such as Indiana, North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Auburn and Duke are heavily involved with Wilson.

5. SG Maleek Thomas

Cassidy's Take: Meleek Thomas is a vocal on-court leader and one of the most charismatic prospects in America, in addition to being one of the more well-rounded and high-upside players in this class.

He took home Most Outstanding Player honors at the recent Pangos All-American Camp after showing the ability to impact games as a scorer, rebounder, defender and facilitator.

Few players in the Rivals150 can stuff a box score like Thomas, who is considering Auburn, Pitt, Arkansas, UConn, Miami and Indiana among others.

6. PF Koa Peat

Cassidy's Take: The 6-foot-8, 230-pound Koa Peat comes from an athletic family with a history of producing football prospects but has blazed his own path to a five-star ranking in the hoops world by utilizing his strength and shot-creation ability to become one of the more dangerous offensive weapons in the 2025 class.

Peat is developing as a long-range shooting threat capable of creating matchup issues on the perimeter and is a much better passer than some give him credit for being.

Arizona, Arkansas, Baylor, Duke, Houston and North Carolina are all involved in Peat’s recruitment.

9. PG Darius Acuff

Cassidy's Take: A volume-scoring guard capable of making difficult shots look easy and absolutely taking over games from a scoring standpoint, Darius Acuff is as exciting as prospects come. The Detroit native continues to make small strides when it comes to his shot selection, which still needs refining, but he is already one of the most reliable and explosive scorers in the country.

Acuff is a shot-hunter that creates for himself off the bounce and has become a better passer in recent months.

Michigan. Kansas and Arkansas seem like the most serious players in the Acuff sweepstakes.

10. SF Nate Ament

Cassidy's Take: The 6-foot-9 Nate Ament is an upside bet that has spent the spring turning potential into production and is beginning to look like a future pro. There are few prospects in the class that can match the well-rounded skill set of Ament, who can handle it and fill it up from deep.

He still needs to add significant muscle before he reaches his true two-way potential but his length and skill make his upside absolutely tantalizing.

Virginia, Virginia Tech, Indiana and Duke are among the programs to watch in Ament’s recruitment.

11. SF Will Riley

Cassidy's Take: Will Riley is a newly minted five-star that has taken the next step as a prospect this spring. The Canadian-born wing is considering a reclassification into 2024 and will likely end up on a college roster next season.

For now, however he remains in 2025 and is one of the more unique scorers in the class, thanks in part to a slightly unconventional game that relies on hesitation dribbles and getting to his spots. He also shoots it well from deep and has a reliable pull-up from the mid-range.

Illinois, Kentucky, Alabama and Arkansas are involved with Riley.
