Yeah, it is similar to how all latino immigrants are viewed as illegal mexicans today.

Okies were viewed as lazy, thieves, and would cheat you any way possible. Arkies were viewed as hard working good people trying to make the best for their family.

it's not just immigrants lol. my wife is of hispanic descent, but was born in arkansas.

the other day in court some defendant was pissed that a "job stealing wet back" was trying to put him in jail.

we hear that kinda shite all the time. All because she has brown skin. Pitiful.

Born, raised, and went to school in Arkansas, and it doesn't bother me.

Growing up, my Mother would get PISSED when people called us "Ar-Kansans". Every time, she would correct them and say we were "Arkansawyers".

I'm born, raised, left, and returned here. I'm not a big fan of the name "Arky," but it doesn't bother me. On the Rant, it can have the feel like someone trying to talk down to a little brother, like turning Mike into Mikey, but I'm comfortable with my manhood/fanhood/statehood, so it's all good. Besides, if I have a choice between getting called a Corndog, a Gump, or an Arky, I'll take Arky all day long.

Neither the phrase okie or arkie has ever offended me. I know what I am.

I don't consider it derogatory. I just don't like it.

A much more relevant term for the Okies would be Chokelahoma. You get to encompass both of their 'good' football teams with this term...

It is a derogatory term, but I don't find much offense on it. Ar-Kansas doesn't bother me much either, Les is an idiot and that just reinforces it.
