ATLANTA -- Gus Malzahn just wants to be at a place where he is loved. Whether that is Auburn or, ahem, some other place is the question on the clock.

Sources close to Malzahn here over the weekend indicated that a possible departure to Arkansas is realistic though not necessarily a done deal.

"Arkansas is dead serious," said a different source close to the situation. "They want him in the worst way."

One figure tossed around, according to the source, $50 million for seven years. (For context, Jimbo Fisher just received $75 million over 10 from Texas A&M.)

That's the market for a really good coach now, like it or not.

He doesn't want to "come home"....he is just trying to get paid.

Which is fine.....but don't piss down our backs and tell us its raining.

The homecoming is bullshite.

This just more reason I dislike him.

Pretty much. They're not quite broke, but they're pretty concerned about money. These people who are "dead serious" about getting Gus aren't the people who count. Lol

Please God do not be true that’s utterly insane and ridiculous. I have ZERO problem spending big money but flipping Gus for that much— I’m not sure whether or this is appropriate.

This sounds like Sexton's side leaking drama.

That’s a lot, but it’s not my money so doesn’t really bother me.

yeah, but this is Gus, not a great coach.. and he brings a shitload of baggage.

Now, I would point out that it's possible that Sexton is floating this bullshite and both Auburn and Arkansas will say, hey, you know what.. you go ahead and take what the other guy is offering.

I think he signs an extension with Auburn and it gets spun in the media that he never wanted to come to Arkansas for reals.

Truth is that he wasn't coming to Arkansas no way, no how.

Maybe, but we could get Venebles and the best OC available, or Norvell, and the bedt DC available in the country, for less than that. Surely enough people see this for the idiocy it is.

It doesn't matter how many people do, only a certain amount are making this decide.

Lane is making just under a Mil with his 5 year contract and a 500k buyout. Leave Gus and his money at Auburn where he will be fired. We can get Lane on the cheap and when he leaves he sittin decent with solid talent and money gained to hire the next coach.

If FSU doesn't grab Lane then he would be an excellent option for us.

I'm not convinced he would leave Arkansas like so many think. I imagine he's ready to settle into a place for awhile if the contract is pretty enough.

Will we at least find out today whether it’s Gus or not Gus? We don’t even have to hire someone today but he signs something somewhere today- is that the theory? I need something and if it’s him I’m obviously going to have to start looking into good psychiatrists- so the earlier the better.
