I think another AD probably would have kept Bobby but Jeff Long seemed like he needed all the attention as he wanted to be Sankey.
But also couldn’t it have opened Arkansas up for lots of lawsuits due to it being a government job she took?

Yes. If he just hadn’t hired her, he probably doesn’t get fired. The guys arrogance got in the way there and let him double down on stupid.

If he just wasn’t an a-hole, how much would that have played into saving his job?

I doubt it would have mattered. The hiring of your not qualified mistress is something that Fortune 100 CEOs get fired for. It’s a pretty big no no. Especially in a state job like that one.

Whether the firing of Petrino could have been avoided or not, I legitimately do think that Long was attempting to copy the Myles Brand blueprint. Fire a successful, polarizing coach and parlay it into to elevating your national profile and stature.
And it worked for a while, too. He got the CFP chairmanship out of it, and was riding fairly high until he got Ides of March’d by our boosters.
His incompetence as an AD didn’t get unveiled publicly until he got canned at Kansas for the Les Miles fiasco.

the same douchebag cutthroat bitch who did the FOI is the same douchebag bitch who couldn't help approaching Jeff Long in the War memorial press box bathroom while Long was trying to take a piss, and Long called him out on it publicly

I don't. Mainly because I don't think he galvanizes the school, team, and state the way Sam has. That was needed. Sometimes it's hard to remember how much of a low we were at.
Do I think Kiffin can recruit better and likely a better coach? Yes.
Do I think we'd be in the same or better shapet than we have been the last 2+years with Kiffin? Nope.

I don't . BP broke some laws. Surprised no one sued

Mind blowing that anyone believes the University would have been sued over Petrino hiring some side piece. That shite probably happens daily at UA.
I GUARANTEE Meyer hired personal skanks to work in UF's and OSU's athletic departments. GUARANTEE. The difference? UF and OSU are real athletic programs that do what needs to be done - look the other way.
ETA: it definitely didn't help that Petrino was not well liked by boosters and media. The boosters got what they wanted when they pulled off the coup, a friendly coach and a sentence of 12 years (and counting) in the dumpster.

Maybe so but most of that is quiet and not national news.

Absolutely could have been sued. That’s not even debatable.

Possibly but it doesn’t happen on ESPN and every major media outlet in the country.

You must have missed the Urban Meyer/Zach Smith and Dan Mullen incidents. The digital world has changed everything. You’re not sweeping anything under the rug like you could twenty years ago once it’s out on social media.

Kind of difficult to do when your coach is in a neck brace, and skinned up like he has been dragged by a horse. The only way you keep side piece out of it is to get a state trooper to lie. Eventually everyone is tangled up in that web. And yes, I’m pretty sure laws were broken.

Brian Kelly got a kid killed at Notre Dame and kept his job.
The kid basically live tweeted his own death from the scissor lift. It happened only a year prior to Harleygate.
One glaring example of a coach overcoming something far worse in the social media age.

Notre Dame is not a public university for one thing. They probably didn’t even have real cops investigating the kids death. It’s like investigating crimes in Vatican City.

You realize we’re probably about to lose 4 straight right? Do you see 4 more wins on the schedule?
This lol, its year 3 and we're probably going 6-6. I'm not excited about that, sorry.

I am not excited about it, however...
Covid year + 9 wins, then 6-7 wins, then 6-7 wins, then 9-10 wins...
Yeah, After the last years with Smile, Bert, and Chad. I would take it and be thankful for the building of the program Sam has done.
What if he were here 7 years and that is the trajectory prior to making the playoff? Dabo? Iowa with Is it Ferentz? Hmmm. IDK man. We aren't able to recruit talent to have 9-12 wins every year imho

LOL we're winning 9-10 games in two years?Based on what?
This is as experienced and talented of a team as we've had since Petrino and we might have a losing record.
Posted on 10/4/22 at 6:33 pm to STLhog
Agreed, I'm not even hating on Sam, he's done a great job, I just don't see him getting us over the hump. I think he's a 6 to 8 win guy max

Do you really feel confident that Sam can deliver 9-10 in year 5?

I think everybody is jumping off the bandwagon pretty early. Pittboss made some good hires when he came here and has made a lot of progress in 3 years. We've been ranked in the top 10 each of the last 2 years. I'd be absolutely fine giving him an opportunity to hire both or even 3 new coordinators and another 2-3 years. But of course some 6 or less win seasons would change some things. Back away from the ledge people, it's 1 bad loss by 2 points and a blowout to a team we all picked that we'd lose to, who we actually were within 5 points of in the 3rd quarter.
I'm tired of both of our coordinators but I'm not screaming fire everyone...just Odom. Even with Briles, them leaving just gives Pitt an opportunity to make a hire and with his reputation, it seems like he's more than capable of making a good one.
Frat boy would be another Petrino waiting to happen. He hass done surprisingly well (to me) at Ole miss tho. Still wouldn't take him over Pitt at this point
