Does ESPN pay its commentators by the hour or something? Why won’t they let the commentators fill us in on what’s going on with the weather delay and chat to pass time instead of running the same commercial over and over again on ESPN+?

From my experience when this happens I have to leave and come back when it resumes because it ain’t coming back on it’s own.. pretty aggravating

I hope this delay lasts a few more hours. Heck, make them finish tomorrow in the morning.

DVH said in his presser that they took Gaeckle out after the 8th in order to potentially use him later in the regional if needed. He also hinted that Gaeckle might start down the road in this postseason if we keep playing.
He also said McEntire can still pitch if needed on Sunday, though I’m not sure they trust him at all. DVH seemed pretty pissed about the home run ball he threw because it was a 1-2 pitch that was supposed to be in the dirt and McEntire left it up (which he’s started doing more and more with his cutter).
He also seemed frustrated with Molina because he “couldn’t throw a breaking ball for a strike.”
Basically everyone who pitched yesterday can be called upon later this weekend if needed, with Gaeckle being the question mark. Outside of him, nobody threw an overly high number of pitches between Molina (60), McEntire (30), Foutch (21), and Faherty (17).

If we need significant work from Foutch and Faherty tonight that’s going to leave us pretty thin for tomorrow where we will almost certainly need at least 4 innings from then pen. Best case tonight Smith gives us a solid 7, offense does its job, and we only need Coil and/or Hewlett to finish the job. Or hell, maybe Smith leaves the game and we’re up 10-1 and can see if someone like Frank or Carter can close it out, leaving our pen looking really good.

I wasn’t saying we’d need or use them tonight (outside of Faherty that’s probably impossible), but rather we’d have them available for tomorrow afternoon or Monday if needed.
