This team epitomizes the Earl Weaver maxim of “pitching, defense, and the 3 run homer.”
We’re not blowing teams out, we’re not hitting the cover off the ball, and we don’t have any offensive All American watchlist guys. However, we are getting clutch hits, 2 out hits, and the multi-RBI homer when we need it to go along with great starting pitching, quality depth in the bullpen, and good defense (especially McLaughlin who continues to save errors at first with swipe tags on throws that bring him off the bag).
Phil and Bubba said it on the radio this past weekend, but the homers our pitchers give up seem to be exclusively solo homers, whereas ours seem to usually come with a runner(s) on base.

What cannot be overlooked on the offensive side is the league on base percentage.
The at bats for the most part are very patient. On the weekends, we make the opposing pitcher throw strikes. If not, we take our walks. To me, that aspect cannot be stated enough. Thats very important.
The batting average isnt going to woo anyone at .283 overall, but I would like to remind everyone that the 2021 team only hit .267 as a club. 2022 hit .276 and last year we hit .273. That 2018 squad hit .296 as a team. Maybe if we keep swinging it like we have that we climb to that number?

quote:You touched on this with your continuation but I want to reiterate, a .283 team average is not bad by any stretch of the imagination. Numbers may be up overall comparatively, but that'll get 'r done when you have the pitching we do.

Gaeckle is going to be very, very good.

Great to pick up the win after the bats went absolutely ice cold after the 3rd inning.
Silver lining of Mac imploding in the 8th is that he should be fine to pitch Sunday if needed.
And Gaeck is an absolute dog.

Bats were shite. Win tomorrow.

Inserting Holt into the lineup was a great call by DVH, but Helfrick over Souza was a complete head scratcher.
Right on schedule, Nate Thompson has the bats in typical mid-season form.

It seemed like DVH was experimenting today to see who can handle the pressure. I would have expected to see Frank or Gaeckle if we really had to win this game.
He was clearly pissed at wood.

Faherty went from closing in Arlington and getting a ton of hype to throwing 3 innings since and probably just threw his last pitch this season.
