First place in overall SEC race with 6 games left.
Tied with Vandy and half game up on LSU.

Who goes to the bench when Wegner and Josenburger are heathy? Gonna be tough to bench McLaughin. Even though slavens had a great series I think McLaughin is better at the plate. Not sure about his defense though.

McLaughlin will sit, unfortunately. No way DVH sits Slavens this late in the season. He's too loyal to his upperclassmen.

This is true. I hope it doesn't make McLaughlin seek greener pastures at season's end. With that said, Slavens is picking up the slack and has been hitting much better.

For all his faults at the plate, Slavens is a really good defensive first baseman.
I think McLaughlin is one of the best pure hitters on the team, but I’m not sure DVH sits Slavens given that he’s an upperclassman, his defensive ability, he’s been hitting fairly well lately, and DVH is fairly reticent to make big shakeups late in the season (as are all baseball coaches).
That said, I think they’ll find a way to get McLaughlin at bats. I can see him in the Charlie Welch pinch hitter role in late innings PHing for Rowland or Bolton.
It also wouldn’t shock me if he saw some 2B if Stovall’s shoulder doesn’t get better.

It should also be noted that Morris pitched 3 clean innings today (2 of them perfect) and picked up the win. 0 hits, 0 runs, and only 1 walk.
I’ve been on record about Morris and how frustrated I was with his struggles this year because of how good he was last year and the fact we needed a senior arm in the pen, so it’s good to see him starting to (hopefully) pull out of this funk he’s been in nearly all season.
DVH mentioned last week that Morris met with the coaches and basically asked them not to give up on him, and DVH added that they’d probably left him in a batter too long in a few appearances.

Pretty sure McLaughlin won the JUCO gold glove at 3rd last year. He might be our starting 3B next season if he stays. Or maybe we just stick him at first

Losing Carter sucks but Morris was coming for a lot of his innings I think.

Can McLaughlin play SS or C?
Man I hope this Morris turnaround isn’t fools gold. He’s had back to back good outings but it’s been against Lipscomb and the last place team in the SEC.

Same.
I’m cautiously optimistic, but I’m not betting the farm on it. He’s consistently had poor outings this season, and has spent the better part of the year with an ERA above 10.
I’m glad to see him start to pitch better, but he’s still got a long way to go to regain the coaches’ confidence before we see him in a high leverage spot in a big game.

If you had told me this after we had that outbreak of injuries awhile ago I'd have given you my drugs are bad speech. I tip my hat to DVH, he's turned what should have been a disaster into a solid season.

Up to #3 in D1’s latest ranking.
RPI up to #5, compared to a regular season ending RPI of #41 last year.

Drewbie touched on this last week, but our schedule actually set up quite nicely this year.
Auburn and A&M both made Omaha last year but were down this season. Swept both.
Tennessee was flat as hell coming off their gorilla ball season. Swept.
Ole Miss and Mississippi State both went into the gutter. Took 5 of 6.
Bama was a good team but had a wannabe Pete Rose as their skipper. Took 2 of 3.
LSU was as advertised but we still took game 1, which was a huge win in my book.
The only series where we didn’t show up and just shite the bed was Georgia.
Now we get a reeling South Carolina at Baum-Walker before heading into Vandy with (hopefully) most of our big bats back in the lineup.

I feel like we'll win the series at Baum and drop the series at Vandy.
Whatever happens DVH, has done his best work with this team.

I'm juiced for our starters to filter in these last couple series, get them a few reps in the SEC tournament and strap up the boot straps in Baum and send us to Omaha again.

Amen to that.
He’s been pushing the right buttons and moving the chess pieces to the right places on the board with the lineup, with the rotation and the pen, and with situational baseball (Robinett’s PH at LSU, going small ball, bunting Bolton, etc).
What we’re doing is nothing short of a statistical anomaly. Just look at our conference rankings in several categories:
Offense
11th in team BA
9th in slugging %
7th in OBP
11th in hits
9th in homers
6th in walks
4th most strikeouts
Most GIDP
Pitching & Defense
7th in team ERA
5th highest opposing BA
13th in batters struck out
8th in walks allowed
10th in homers allowed
Most balks
6th in fielding %
Statically we should be a middle of the pack SEC team. Being tied for 1st overall in the SEC, 1st in the west, and ranked #3 in the country makes no statistical sense and is absolutely a testament to DVH.

I'm pretty sure we lead the league in saves. Smith has been that dominate closer that DVH covets. It's a luxury to know that if you have the lead in the 6th inning that game is going in the win column.
