We were helped mightily by pretty much everyone around us having weeks like ours.

Don't think we'll have to worry much about hosting. There's just no telling what we'll do once we get there.

100% agree. Need to get some good injury news (yeah right) over the next couple weeks.

You mean, we're a lock to be a host?

Not a lock by any means, but we'd have to completely collapse to fall out of the top 16. We're not gonna get hit very hard if we lose the SCar and Vandy series.

Just don't shite the bed against A&M and State and try not to go 0-6 against SCar and Vandy and we're hosting, IMO.

I’m not in “sky is falling” mode, but I’d be remiss if I didn’t point out that we were in roughy the same position at this point last year (#5) and had had a similar season trajectory up to that point, and we’d have been shocked if told we would ultimately wind up in Stillwater.

In our last four series we beat Ole Miss and Auburn 2 of 3, dropped 2 of 3 to Vandy and Bama, and then went 2 and out in Hoover and ended up not hosting.

Given that 3 of our final 4 series are against ranked teams, with South Carolina and Vandy in the top 5, we’ve got a lot of tough baseball left.

Feels like we're a little more solidified at the top this year to me. Even after getting swept by UGA we're flirting with top 5 RPI and ELO. Really the only thing that would get me to worry is an awful showing against State. That's really the only resume landmine we have left. Similar to Bama last year.

Now that doesn't mean we can just goof off and lose out the rest of the year, but I think we'd have to play our worst ball of the season from here on out for hosting to be an issue. It's absolutely possible, I just think we're solid enough both as a team and how we presently sit to avoid stressing out over it.

Having said that now we'll go get swept next weekend too.

Didn't our SOS kill us last year? This year we have a similar conference record but the conference is even stronger. Would be surprised if we don't host. Now National seed will still take work. Probably need 18 conference wins

I crunched the numbers of SEC national seeds for the last 10 years and 18 conference wins is borderline for getting a national seed. In years where the conference is top heavy (like this year) 18 wins is probably not enough. 19 wins would get us there. However that would require getting two wins in each of the last 4 series. A&M and Miss State seem possible, home vs SCAR would be tough, and road @ Vandy would be a stretch. Sweeping A&M or Miss State would be helpful.

You’re not wrong.

LSU was in Johnson’s first year and just okay, Vandy and Florida were both borderline top 25 teams, Ole Miss was in freefall after being #1 early in the season, and State had a title year hangover and finished with a losing record.

Fast forward to this year and LSU, Vandy, and Florida are all top 5 teams, we draw a top 5 South Carolina and a top 15 (as of now) Tennessee from the East, and we have quality OOC wins over Texas and Oklahoma State (last year Stanford and Mo. State were the only quality OOC opponents and we lost both).

Mo. State plates 4 runs (and counting) in the 3rd off of Zack Morris via a single, single, E7/single (unsure how it was scored), double, and single.

5-2 Bears in the 3rd. Still 2 outs.

Am I wrong saying we might be better off telling Morris thanks for his time in the program but give someone else the opportunity to pitch.

How was he named captain in the fall?

Morris ultimately gives up 5 in just 0.2 IP.

I was hoping he’d break out of his funk at some point this season but it looks like this season is going to be a complete way for him.

His ERA likely just crept back into double digits.
