Arkansas junior guard Sasha Goforth has taken a pause from basketball again.

The news was announced during the Razorback Sports Network pregame radio show ahead of the team’s ACC/SEC Challenge game Thursday at Florida State.

Goforth returned this season after missing all of 2022-23 to address a battle with gastroparesis.

The condition causes delayed emptying of the stomach and results in frequent vomiting, nausea and abdominal pain.

“She is doing OK,” Arkansas coach Mike Neighbors said during the show. "She came in a couple weeks ago and was starting to show some signs of some of the things that have crept in in the past that made basketball a really hard thing for her.

"She fought it for a couple of weeks and did the best that she could, and then after our trip to Fort Myers...came [to me] and it's just a really hard time for her to keep playing basketball."

In 7 games this season, Goforth averaged 3 points, 2.7 rebounds and 1.9 blocks in 16.1 minutes per game. Her blocked shots average ranks fourth in the SEC.

"It was a sad thing for our kids, because it's been a two-year thing," Neighbors said. "She is still a part of our team. Nothing changes with that just like last year. But she is not available [and] she is not in uniform."

There is no timetable for a Goforth return. She did not travel with the team to Tallahassee, Fla., for the game.

You hate to hear it but those ongoing health issues can really derail an athletic career and there isn't much anyone can do about it.

Hopefully she stays in school, gets her degree, and eventually beats this thing so she can have a good life going forward.

Ya you would think with modern medicine they'd be able to get it under control by now but not always how it works.

Kentucky is far and away the best team in the SEC right now.

Down by 3 to UNC Wilmington with 9 minutes to play.

Kentucky loses 80-73.

Ole Miss beats Memphis 80-77 and Chris Beard has the Rebels at 7-0 early in the season.

Beard's gonna be a problem. He's a damn good coach. I can't imagine him staying in Oxford for too long though.

Some conditions you have to settle for managing them and hope for more good days than bad.
