Offers to other coaches just don't make sense if you are pursuing Beard, which is why I don't think they have happened.

You might be able to slow play Musselman, but you can't slow play Marshall. You certainly don't make him a low ball offer either. If Marshall is your guy, and he has interest, you close the deal.

Sorry guys, just got back. I got in my car and ran myself over.

I do think it will end up being Musselman. I've thought that for awhile now.

We didn't offer Marshall anything. Our hiring process isn't even to the point of offering yet.

First they will talk to Beard and throw an crazy number down.

If he turns us down

They will work with the next candidate, i figure Muss, and that whey they will get an offer.

You don't just go out throwing offers to everybody. Its a process.

All we have done is send out feelers.

our media is a joke.. Biddy said last week he had no sources aside from the Sampson deal and now he’s saying he’s got sources on like 6 different guys. They’re all hacks. Believe nothing they say

If this search has proved anything, it is the Arkansas media members mostly rely on message board rumors and are just as lost as we are.

Oh, I'm not guessing Musselman because of something Grant Hall or Trey Biddy says. I think it'll be him because he is the best fit for our situation outside of Chris Beard.

I don't think we will get Beard. I would be thrilled if we did, but I'll have to see it first. Chances are he would only be here a couple years anyways. Texas will move on from Shaka Smart at some point. I figure sooner than later.

I find it hard to believe that some level of negotiations haven't been ongoing with Beard. I understand that being in the final four takes a ton of attention not only the coaching aspect but media, interviews, etc...

It just seems naive to think that he wouldn't have 5 minutes to say to his agent these are my terms take it or leave it.

There have been discussions, and we’ll really probably start to see stuff on Sunday if Tech loses tomorrow. I just know our big money guys who are assisting HY plan to throw huge money at him. We’ll see if Tech counters like Auburn did and give him a huge guarantee contract.

If we hadn't wasted so much money firing the fat one i would say they do not stand a chance

They have money but I don't see them willing to reach 6M over a basketball coach. I'm more worried that they get an offer close enough to ours that he decides it is not worth it.

I honestly don’t know. I know we’re gonna offer damn near double what he makes now if not bit more.

This 3.5 all comes from some moron stating that we don't want to offend Chad Morris. If anybody actually believes that, go hop in your car and run over yourself. They may only pay 3.5 million for someone like Musselman but it won't be because of the football coach.

I don't know much about the coaching search but I DO know that the "CCM $3.5 million rumor" is bullshite.

Not sure where or why that started but it's 1000% untrue.

This next part is just an educated guess based off what I'm gleaning: Beard is the man but Musselman is on board if that falls through. We (as fans) will know for sure Sunday night.

Well look at what Cal is making at K. Y. If you want to compete..... It would be something to be going head to head and back and forth with the elite of college basketball again.

Get rid of the ooc schedule filled with the sisters of the poor and get some big names to play home and home series for a change. Fill the Bud up. Make us a name again. You get what you pay for.

If Beard is in play the money probably isn't the end all.

Tech will be willing to pay at least close to us. Beard is going to have to want to make the jump for other factors than just money.

There were some rumors earlier in the year that he wasn't exactly pleased with everything at Tech. No clue if thats true or not.

Here is a blurb from an article from Dallas News

quote:

As Hocutt was checking into the Tech team hotel Wednesday, he outlined exactly how he had been "proactive" regarding Beard. He said that included a $30 million basketball practice facility currently under construction, the overall university investment in the program -- and Beard's current contract situation. Never mind that Beard signed a six-year, $19 million deal after taking Tech to the Elite Eight in 2018. "It would be my intention to be able to have that conversation Tuesday or Wednesday," Hocutt said, "and Chris and I have talked about this." Hocutt realizes things have changed. A $2.8 million salary this year -- tied for 27th among college basketball coaches, according to the USA Today database -- might have looked very competitive 12 months ago. Now, not so much. If that means tearing up or restructuring the old deal, Hocutt said that's a possibility. In fact, he reached out to Beard nearly six weeks ago. "These conversations started at the end of February," Hocutt said. "I would say out of our focus and coach Beard's focus and commitment to this team and this season, we decided to hit the pause button until the season is over."

Hocutt is like Jeff Long, more worried about making more money than spending it to be good. He was forced to fire Kingsbury because he was cheap and average and he liked that.

Exactly,

If Beard is my guy, I openly say we will make sure he isn't going anywhere else. Some may try, but they will fail.

But then again, Lubbock is a top 10 craphole of a city.

I mean do yourself a favor and pull up Lubbocks airport on google satellite and zoom out and look at what you fly into after every trip out. its depressing.

I'll give Yuri this, he's done a great job throwing out junk to keep the heat off of Beard until he finishes his season.
