Chavis was recruiting the guy at A&M (no scholly offer, to be fair) and was one of his first stops when he got here. He obviously thinks the guy has some semblance of talent.
At this point in the process we need bodies so if that means taking a sleeper target or two, so be it.

If it makes you feel any better A&M's new Jimbo staff is pursuing him.
All these staffs specifically the new ones are searching for any remaining talent while the stable elites are looking to pick off the few remaining stars.
