We've already got a 6'3 and a 6'2 guy committed in this class. I would though love to the staff go after a 6'5 or so WR like this more often. It would be nice to have some legit height out there for once.

I was about to post the same thing. We have a couple tall wide receivers already but the only ones that have produced in the first two games are Morgan, Hatcher, and Cornelius. The best wide receiver in the world is 5'10.

Just because we haven't had success doesn't mean we couldn't. Enos would utilize a tall receiver if he had one with any skill/speed. I'd gladly take another Marcus Monk just for the red zone.

Kevonte Turpin was the most dynamic player on the field Saturday. He is 5'8 155lbs. I just was football players regardless of size.

Zero sum all up in here. I'm not saying that we should take inferior talent at WR just because they're tall. But if it's a stud WR that happens to be 6'4" I like the possibilities it adds to our offense.

Cobi is 6'3, Monk is 6'5, Childs is 6'3, Reed is 6'3

I love having a Jarius Wright, but I also love having a Marcus Monk. Because Wright isn't gonna high point a jump ball in the endzone from the 35 yard line down 6 with 3 seconds left.

Yeah it's all about having WR's that are different sizes. It allows you to do so many more things with the offense. Look at OM, State and A&M. They've all had some monster WR's that can go downfield and win the 1 on 1 deep balls over most CB's. It would be nice to have one of those in our arsenal.

Size is only important in jump ball situations. Route running is what gets you open. You can even see the resurgence in the NFL with the small shifty guys.
It's no longer a 5 step drop game. Its a get the ball out quick and protect the QB. Smaller WRs can do that for you.

Define jump ball. AA's TD to Sprinkle wasn't a jump ball. But it was out of reach of the shorter defender. Possession/big receivers can be hugely effective. Julio Jones, AJ Green, etc? Those were big guys. And they're 2 of the best.

LITERALLY NO ONE is saying we should ignore small, shifty wide receivers. No one. No one is "OBSESSED" with getting a tall WR. We're saying that they can be good weapons, provided we get ones that aren't slow/lack skills.

Size helps on underneath routes.

Keyshawn Johnson made a living off using his bigger body to shield defenders from the ball.

Put him at nose he could reach over center and snag the QB.

From that article:

quote:

Williams started playing football just three years ago and has been on varsity squad the past two seasons. He started three games last season at nose tackle and registered three tackles. In the winter, he played basketball for the Eagles and appeared in five games. Though those numbers won't scare anyone, his weight room numbers are impressive. He said his workouts include squats of 1,000 pounds three times and bench presses of 200 pounds 20 times.
