Bert has said that his favorite part about being a college coach is taking an under-recruited guy and developing him as a player/student/person through the 4-5 years they're in college.

Part of me believes this is a cop out to busting his arse on the recruiting trail against the big boys.

Part of me believes there is more merit and a bigger payoff to bring in smart guys that give a shite about the school part of being a student athlete and have the frame, build and potential to become a really good athlete and a complete professional be it in sports or in business although you do trade a measurable amount of talent on the field.

Another part of me believes in the ying and yang of talent /recruiting vs. coaching/building up. Not sure you can focus the majority of your energy on both. You either recruit your tail off and get guys that are more of a finished product, or you recruit well against mid-majors and bust arse to mold these mid-level recruits into capable players.

Korey Hernandez commits. This is just getting kinda weird. 2* and we're far and away the best offer. At the least, I'll assume he's a great kid. Just wish we were seeing commits with a few more BIG offers.

It's safe to say that his class is hands down going to be our lowest ranked one under Bielema.

Coaches got to work with him at the Atlanta satellite camp and loved him.

I see more head scratching than complaining. These guy may end up being great players. It's just odd to see us take this many this early with guys that aren't being recruited heavily. Hoping our coaches are just ahead of the curve on these guys.

This is all well and good. I'm sure that there is a lot of satisfaction in that. I love to see underdogs rise up and bite somebody too.
I'm not so sure you can count on that for a whole class and succeed in the SEC though.
Again, I'm not complaining, we may be getting some real diamonds in the rough. Only time will tell.

People are basing this class off of summer rankings from sites that are so behind the curve they wait until after the summer into the fall when the evauls start to get updated rapidly on their sites.

The difference between past years is they are being allowed to commit now, so of source it looks worse on paper then it would if they committed in the fall and the sites seen x schools offered so he must be an x rating x rank at his position/state, x amount of stars.

The staff has already seen these guys in person evaluated their film etc it isn't trying to do more with less the are taking who they want this early, the diamond digging is shown more with the late offers in the spring, like most of Nutt's classes or Petrino offering Herndon on NSD letting him have a shot at playing above the d2 offers he was choosing from.

I realized that as well, Dale. And I am hoping that is the case.

I'd love to see more stars beside these kids' names, but Bret and this staff are not "settling" on players this early. They are offering players they want, and accepting commitments from players high enough on their board to satisfy that position need.

I'm sure the ratings will go up. One benefit is that we are able to focus and heavily recruit more high profile targets now. Devoting more time to these guys may end with a strong finish for this class.

I'm a fan of how bert has adapted his strategy in recruiting to accepting commitments early.

shows he's willing to try something different, in hopes of seeing better results

I like it too. Hope it means they're not scrambling at the end anymore.

Lots of luck was involved in those signings.

Collins was probably going wherever Bielema was at, thankfully he's rebellious and wouldn't listen to momma.

Kirkland would be at Miami if Golden's crew hadn't jerked him around.

Both of them seemed to really enjoy their time here. The Hawaiian kid enjoyed his time here too much as he never played a snap I don't believe.
