Willey could turn into the closer if Hart and Chadwick can be reliable enough to get the ball to him.

Would allow Jackson to start mid-season or so.

#Arkansas finishes off #TexasTech 10-6 to go 3-0 for the weekend here in Houston. Think you’ll see #Hogs w/ a nice rise up our rankings Mon.

It's always the Van Horn teams no one expects much out of.

Nice to have pitching depth along with hitting and defense. This looks like a pretty complete team for van horn to play with.I like our chances to have a great year..

The Razorbacks finished the 2015 season on a high note with a trip to the College World Series, and the general consensus coming into the spring was that the Hogs might take a slight step back. Or, maybe not.

The Hogs put together a rather impressive performance in a 5-2 win over Jon Duplantier and Rice, and looked like a team not taking a step back anytime soon.

Arkansas freshman Eric Cole and sophomore Luke Bonfield look the part, while one of the pleasant surprises was the play of third baseman Carson Shaddy. As we’ve documented in the past, the Hogs lost one of the best in the business defensively in Bobby Wernes, but Shaddy made some terrific plays on the hot corner against the Owls. Meanwhile, righthander Zach Jackson continues to look like the filthiest arm in college baseball when he’s commanding his fastball. Jackson was consistently low-to-mid 90s with his fastball, while also throwing an outstanding mid-80s changeup and low-to-mid 80s curveball with good depth.

The Razorbacks are still very much a work in progress as coach Dave Van Horn will happily admit, but he has to be very encouraged by the play of Shaddy, Jackson and plenty of others.

The Hogs look like the typical Hogs at this juncture.
Kendall Rogers wrote that after our win against Rice Friday. The bolded part was what I loved. For a dominant win over a traditionally strong baseball program to be described as "typical Hogs" is awesome. We've firmly established ourselves as a baseball power.

Fire DVH though, right?

Zach Jackson (2016, Arkansas) was all that any high-ranking scout could talk about this weekend when asked about players who stood out across the nation. Jackson was explosive out of the bullpen, attacking the edges of the plate with a 93-96 mph fastball. He pitched down in the zone and his life stood out to scouts in attendance. He showed his trademark hammer, plus curveball and consistently missed bats with it. But the talk was mostly about his diving 88-89 mph changeup after his Friday outing. This type of arm showing a three-pitch mix out of the bullpen could put him in the driver’s seat as the fast track reliever of choice in the first-round picture this June.

First loss of the season tonight. Just couldn't get the bats going. Pitching was still solid. Louisiana Tech is a solid club, though.

Eastern Illinois wins their first game of the year.

We have zero pitching.

Back to reality.

Nothing kneejerk about it we just lost to an absolutely awful team at home. We have zero pitching depth. Don't know what else to tell you if you think otherwise.

Taccolini would be a 3rd starter on most other SEC teams and Knight/McKinney would be bullpen arms.

We will go into almost every SEC series at a major starting pitching disadvantage and you're not going to win in SEC play without pitching.

DVH isn't going to have a choice when it comes to moving Jackson to starting. And then the bullpen takes a massive hit. Willey is the only other bullpen arm that is reliable.

This is still college, even studs struggle. Jackson got shelled today in extra innings and took the loss.

Knight now has an ERA of 7 after allowing 5 earned runs in 3 innings to a winless team. And he beat out prized recruit McKinney for the 2nd spot which tells you where Keaton is.

All 5 runs Knight allowed were earned. I don't really care about anything else outside of the starting pitching. He has an ERA of 7 now. When you get shelled by an 0-9 team you should surrender your starting spot.

Bats are fine.

Defense will be fine.

Jackson will be fine, off day.

Knight needs to head to the bullpen. Rather see Teague get another chance before Jackson has to be moved closer to conference play.

Yeah I agree. But we weren't outplayed, we beat ourselves today

I'm honestly more concerned Jackson didn't exactly impress in relief. Him starting isn't the panacea some think it will be
