Sounds like damage control, but there's probably a lot of truth to it too.

Of course, they did this crap with DGB too, and the "yeah but he silently committed on his official visit!" excuse is an oft-used one by recruiting guys everywhere. Heck, these kids always get swept up in the emotions of their official visits when the red carpet is rolled out for them.

Reminds me a bit of Kevin McReynolds, a 4 star DT from a few years ago who was committed to us for a while and was a twitter hero and Hogville favorite who was basically just grandstanding for twitter followers. He ended up at UCLA and is playing O-line now, though I'm not sure how much he actually plays.
