This team IMO is not as talented as everyone who naively thought we’d not miss a beat after Saban and be back playing for the big trophy has been screaming.
RB: elite
TE: good
WR: elite
OL: we have three guys who would start for anyone in the country and two guys who are hurt.
I’d take our offensive players (setting aside QB) over UGA, OM, TN, PSU, IU, ND, Miami and Oregon.
We have plenty of talent to be a top 3 offense, we just need a PG who can distribute the ball.

That's sort of true about your "NEWSFLASH" and a competition. Yes, there was a competition of sorts in the Spring from almost two years ago but Simpson was a long shot to win that competition. Why?
Radio and Buchner both had something that Nick valued over just about anything else: game experience. In the competition, that put those two way, way ahead of any chance Simpson had.
I'm friends with a guy who was at several of the scrimmages that year. Simpson clearly had the athleticism to play but because he appeared to be aware that he was at the plate with two strikes, he seemed to think he had to make a lot of "WOW" plays and would throw passes that were either ill advised or he would hold on to the ball too long.
I think Simpson really needed some good one on one coaching and get in the habit of just playing smart and not feeling like he had to be a superstar, he'd have performed much, much better.
Let's put it this way, if Simpson transferred to Ole Miss, Lane would work wonders for him, he would start there and pass for 3000+ yards and probably rush for 1000 yards.

Unless you have no confidence in QB2. I’m not dissing Simpson at all because we don’t know what he’s really capable of, but it sure looks like the coaching staff doesn’t think he can do any better. And it’s their decision, not the fans’, although there could be consequences if they’re wrong.
He certainly didn’t inspire confidence against USF last year

I still don’t get how anyone says this
He lead us on straight scoring drives and had a dart to Dippre, while basically running for his life or being sacked almost immediately. He also threw it out of bounds when necessary.
He did perfectly fine from a tape perspective. Little green and wasn’t wowing anyone, but he was fine

He barely got a chance to play. He was taking mostly snaps with the no 2s not no 1s all week. Then is thrust into the starting spot in bad weather conditions.
He didn’t play great or bad because he didn’t play enough to draw much of an opinion off of

Simpson also had most of the offense simply mailing it in as a part of their little tantrum and middle finger to CNS. O line didn't block for sh*t. RBs didn't run hard. WRs dropped passes and didn't really try.
Simpson was hit, sacked or knocked down many times and not once did any of his team mates help him up. That right there spoke volumes about what they thought about Simpson and CNS.
What I'd like to have seen is Nick bench the entire 1st team offense and put the entire second team O in. They couldn't have done any worse than the first team and I bet they would have actually TRIED. But, that's 20/20.

But Nick told us that #4 deserved to lead the time on Monday after the game.
Imagine that.
Imagine that.

Freshman qbs aren't typically successful.

This is like if CJ Stroud, Bryce Young, or Jayden Daniels were coming in.
Bryce nor Stroud played as a freshman.
Daniels played at Arizona State. Not exactly a powerhouse.
