What was Samson averaging before he gashed us in the second half?

To answer the question, you can’t “stick” with something you aren’t seriously trying.

Why does Sheridan not run RB screens to slow down the pressure? Why did he go away from the short throwing game which had us run up the score against UGA the first half?

Because Milroe is pretty much the worst QB I’ve seen at Alabama at throwing bubble, jailbreak, or middle screens.

The Washington Huskies passed on 59.4% of their plays in 2023.

I’m not arguing he isn’t pass heavy but think about his roster last year.

You’re talking about an NFL QB in Penix, two NFL WRs plus Bernard.

It would’ve been coaching malpractice not to throw the ball with that group.

I will base my answer on a view that my coack held and one that Saban held for his first 10 years on campus.

Disapline
Defense
Team Centric

When the system shifts from team centric to a QB centric approach, if the QB fails to play at an exceptional level, the team outcome fails as well.

Today's game has shifted to the point that without an all world defense, you have to be able to outscore the other team. The quickest way to do that is with a high end QB that has explosive tools around him.

If anything happens to prevent the QB from holding up to a QB centric pressure, everything else collapses. The OL has no idea what the QB is going to do and blocking becomes more difficult. The RB's have to guess if the team star QB is going to give them the ball in time to set up blocks. The WR's have no idea if the QB can or will go thru the system progressions or just try to make a splash play until it is too late to find the 3rd option. The defense gets worn down by the middle to end of the 3rd qtr because 3-&-out build up so they do not have time to catch their breath on the sideline.

If you add into that chaos a QB who cannot read the defense before/after the snap. A QB looking for splash plays to build his brand and post season awards hopes. A QB who does not hit tight windows well in short/intermediate throws. Everything becomes a mess.

Then add to that a bunch of NIL (me first) players and a lack of disapline and the team starts to look like Auburn has been since Coach Die left the field. A team that can play at a high level until the emotions drops a little &/or some thing bad happens. The team I saw 2nd 1/2 against UGa, against Vandy, and against UTn looked like an emotional Auburn team that did not have the emotional juice to keep them up.

I’m assuming Richard Young is hurt since we didn’t see him.
Anyone know?
Wish we had a jumbo package to trot out when we have 1st and goal instead of “trick play” attempts. Outside of Daniel Hill, we lack the big bruiser back…and I believe I saw he had an injury.
If Jam is hurt, may be time to hand it off to Robbie Ouzts with a couple of d linemen as lead blockers in short yardage situations …with the threat of a qb bootleg.

I’m convinced Haynes is hurt. He runs NOTHING like last year. Last year, he ran like he was angry. This year, not so much.

Honestly, if he’s hurt and can’t go and and Miller is badly dinged up, why the hell not sit both of them, and use some combination of Richard Young/Daniel Hill or Kevin Riley. Young runs super hard and Hill is 241 lbs.

Hill and Young are both hurt. Young has been out for awhile. Trouble with Miller is he gets hurt every time he starts doing well. Our RB room us a hospital ward right now.

The running backs have had a tough season.

Go look up Jam Miller’s YPC. Seems like the only tough thing about his season so far is he ain’t getting carries. Haynes has been ok, but I’d like to see Richard Young get a few carries. I thought he was the more talented back coming out of high school anyway. Haynes just played on a better team

Edit: just saw Young is hurt. That was news to me as well

You still have Kevin Riley and you could use Kendrick Law at RB. Or there are walk ons that might be serviceable. The point is, we desperately need some RBs that can run the ball.
