It would be nice to be able to read the article. Teased with first few lines and then it goes to something they want you to sign up for. Ugh.

Reading between the lines it sounds like Golding may have wanted to make some personnel changes in the secondary but was told no. If Saban was responsible for that dogshit gameplan and the reason why Hellams and Moore were hung out to dry he needs to do some major self evaluation.

It’s been intimated to me several times throughout the years that there are times when position coaches and coordinators don’t have autonomy to make personnel decisions. I can’t say with certainty that that’s the case here, but it’s been hinted that it might be. Regardless, it boggles the mind that the coaching staff would leave Hellams to flounder and be embarrassed on a national stage.

The other fact is that offensive coordinators are so good now at motioning and altering formations to get the matchups they want. We’ve seen Lane Kiffin and Steve Sarkisian do it both for and against Alabama. If there’s a weakness, gifted offensive minds will find it and exploit it. Golding’s taking the heat for Saturday. That’s the nature of the job. But one source close to the program told me that he was sorry for Golding, suggesting that there were things beyond the coordinator’s control.

Take that with a grain of salt. Either way, I think by Saban’s words this week, there’s more competition in practice this week than there has been all season.

Why do you think Golding hasn't been fired? Maybe the boss knows that he will be hung out to dry publicly?? He is the one teaching these guys their technique

Problem is this is Saban’s D and Golding is holding the reigns. His most significant contribution is recruiting. If Golding was responsible for the D he would have been gone already given our problems the last several years.

There is zero percent chance that isn't true.

He's right though and many of us have been complaining about how our offense is handicapped because we don't attack weaknesses, create matchup problems or use any kind of creativity to get easy yards.

Everything has to come hard with our QB and RB needing to do magical stunts and some still make excuses for Bill O'Brien not realizing without Bryce and Gibbs we would be 2-5.

Exactly this. Kiffin did with Sims what would take BOB a million years to do with Milroe, who for my money is a more accurate passer. There’s little change in his play calling from one opponent to the next, and the longer a season drags on that way, the more your opponents are going to figure you out.

Didn't miss a thing my man, I just applied to more than the DC struggles against rocky top.

I have said many times that Golding was basically outmaneuvered by a brilliant gameplan and playcaller who kept adjusting as he adjusted.

When we saw that our DC was getting outmaneuvered we should have had our offense step up... after all our defense stepped up to save offense against Texas and A&M.

Instead our OC can't gameplan, can't create and can't make sensible calls.

This all ties into one another.

So to sum up someone on the coaching staff is leaking to the athletic that this was Saban’s gameplan not Golding?

Boy that’s bad news either way.

Either you have coaches trying to cover their asses for a career impacting gameplan or Saban had a really bad day and is letting Golding take the heat.

The players deserve the heat for the penalties, but Hellams didn’t get beat by Hyatt, the coach who put him there did.

I think we've gone spoiled after seeing a WR class and quarterback class unmatched in recent history. Add that we had Kiffin and Sark around for that and the guy that followed him just doesn't stack up and the talent at receiver is what we got used to. We are still pretty good despite this.
