What I saw

Rather than responding to other threads I'm just going to make one on what I saw from Sat night.
First... the defense
Where to start here.. Jones can't be left on an island against taller wr's. The Dline was only able to create pressure through stunts and it seemed we only figured this out in the second half. We are stingy against the run up the middle, possibly one of the stingiest under Saban, although we are weaker at setting the edge; Lee gets sucked inside sometimes and Devall is a little slow at times.
I am happy with the play of our ILB and Jackson has played pretty well at saftey. Minkah and Marlon look good promising too, they are going through some growing pains but that is expected.
Now the offense. The light has not come on for Coker, he simply doesn't have the right mentality to play qb. He locks on to one wr that he predetermines before the snap. This is extremely frustrating to watch, I don't recall seeing him scan the field once he forces so many unnecessary throws it's baffling. He has all the arm strength in the world but that's only half the battle.
Foster,Stewart, and Mullaney(sans that one drop) have looked good at wr so has the fresh Ridley. Wr corp is not the problem at all and is a strength. Oline has looked ok, Kelly has to be better at picking up the blitz up the middle this is his 3rd year as a starter he should see everything coming. I think the Oline is fine along with Henry and Drake who have been performing well.
There it is, it all comes down to Qb play on offense and we are vulnerable against the pass on defense. This has been Alabama football the past 2-3 years.. Heres to Barnett and the new crop of DB's breaking that cycle
Also that TD pass OM had when the qb was right at the LOS was complete BULLSHITE in it's on right and was the straw that broke our back... Well that and the Coker Int with 2:30 left. UGA game is HUGE can't start 0-2.. RTR!

Stewart,
Disagree. Saban even called him out in the press conference yesterday as a guy that needs to be more consistent. I saw some half arse routes run with Stewart.
And he should never return a kick again.

Meh, good dbs give up plays some times.

Agree Stewart looked lost out there. Never seem to be running the right route and the DBs were killing him at the line.
Foster out now I really hope Ridley pulls a Cooper and has a huge year. Stewart is not that go to WR right now.

How do you figure. We gave up a fluke that was defended perfect(as close to being perfect and a pass that if the right call was made would have been nullified. Without those 2 passes(which not the fault of our DBs). We give up 200 yards against maybe the best QB in the SEC right now and the best WR corps.

I figure that because we continue to think Cyrus Jones is a lockdown #1 corner, which he is not thus making us vulnerable. Has there been a big game that we have lost recently that Jones hasn't given up a TD? I know he can't be perfect and will give up a TD here and there but a Dre or Dee he is not and we should not run our defense thinking that he is.

Yea but as it stands we gave up 340 yds and 3 tds with no Ints

Been that was all season. Mullaney is the only WR that has really impressed me so far this season, as far as consistency. Foster and Ridley have shown flashes. Look forward to seeing Ridley more on the field.

This bothers me
But on the other hand, I am loving the batted down passes by Dline

I am not a Jones must be a starter fan. I would rather see the younger guys in there. Dre and Dee got beat pretty bad a few times in big games as well IIRC

Yea I know and they grew from it and barely gave up a yard by the time they were JR's. Jones was given that same opportunity but while he has improved dramatically, is just not that lock down #1 cb that we need. Marlon and Minkah are gonna be great ones tho, Brown has to get some more PT also I haven't seen much of him outside of special teams.

I am hoping Brown with his athletic ability, range, and ability to tackle takes over for G Smith next year at Safety. Marlon and Minkah at CB with Brown and Ronnie at Safety.

Is Jackson a Sr this year?? Also Hootie might crack the rotation soon. We have an abundance of talent back there, just have to get the right combo on the field.
I do like the idea of Brown moving to Safety tho

Anything that caused Kelly trouble came from the DL, not the LBs.
That late whiff and INT came off the LE Marquis Haynes stunting.
Now Denzel Nkemdiche was shooting a lot of gaps and coming off the edge on run downs...

Jackson a junior but I think it will hard to keep Brown, Harrison, and Hootie off the field. Also Sheffield could push next year for CB time. I would love to see Marlon, Minkah at CB with Ronnie and Tony at S along with Shef and Hootie in the money star roles.

Problem is that seems to be a trend, at least in the last couple of years. Every time the ball is thrown more than 10 yards downfield, I hold my breath, especially on 3rd downs...in the WVU, AU, and Mizzou games last year (all games that we won), as well as the game against OSU, we gave up multiple long yardage completions, many of 'em where we had decent coverage (the DB was close but either didn't find the ball or was out-muscled/out-jumped by the WR). We used to make those plays routinely...now it seems that, more often than not, the other teams' receivers are coming up with the ball, fluky or not...
It also concerns me that we're not generating many turnovers or sacks...used to be that our D was pretty nasty...for the past couple of seasons though, I think it's been just pretty good...

Denzel Nkemdiche
Many will disagree with me but I think he has had a better career in college than his brother. RN is a great player but Denzel always seems to be involved in the play and always a concern of where he is for an offense.
To bad Ole Miss was the only school to him qualified.

I think this has more to do with the up tempo. Not much time for the D to get sacks before the QB gets rid of the ball and the same for ball hawking as everything is moving quick.
I do like how passes were getting batted down at the line and we seem to get in the backfield for TFL and QBH.
