And I’ll add this, again strictly my opinion: I think moving forward you aren’t going to see schools accumulate a room full of 5-star quarterbacks. There’s no upside to it in the NIL/portal era because few people in this new world are going to sit around and wait their turn.

The only issue with the OP is the whole “we got a problem” tripe.

There’s no problem if Russell wins the job and starts. Whether he wins the job or not is on him.

I think Deboer probably realizes that his job is dependent on winning and showing improvement in year two. Hoping that means the best qb will play regardless of tenure.

He's just one in a long line of trolls that start threads like this.
"Bama is in trouble if..."
"Sources are saying there are BIG problems with the program/certain coach/player."

Expect more unfounded bullshite to come.

Point taken. But I think there’s been some substantive discussion regardless.

Why was he highly touted and recruited?

Why was Blake Barnett? Or Phillip Sims? Or Marc Guillon?

Or any of the thousands of 5 stars that never realize the potential on which they are evaluated.

I couldn't agree more.

Those guys proved themselves to be no good. Simpson hasn't. And plenty of 5 start guys meet expectations.

Phillip Sims threw 28 passes at BAMA. Hardly proof that he was "no good."

Sims transferred to Virginia from Alabama in May 2012 and was granted a waiver by the NCAA to play immediately due to his father’s health situation.[3] He appeared in all 12 games during the 2012 season throwing for 1,263 yards with 9 touchdowns and 4 interceptions.[4]

Sims transferred to Winston-Salem State from Virginia in 2013 after being ruled academically ineligible at Virginia. Sims was forced to sit out for the 2013 season due to transfer rules. In 2014 Sims played in all 11 games. Splitting time at QB, Sims was the team’s leading passer completing 118-of-198 passes for 1,560 yards and 15 TDs with just 4 INTs.[3]

Yeah, OK. It's easy to see from here that Phillip Sims wasn't a good qb. But at the time, he was a 5 star.

Which was my point. Not all 5 stars are great. My opinion is that Ty isn't that good. I also believe DeBoer is a better judge than I. If Ty is the starting qb next season, and he plays well, which I certainly hope he does, I'll admit I was wrong.

If Tua and Bryce needed a year it’s almost impossible to expect this guy rolls in ready to take on this schedule:

Might not be ready, but might beat out Ty nonetheless. Look how highly recruited Milroe was and how that turned out.

I’m just not confident Simpson is the guy or he would have played. Mainly because I don’t want to believe CDK is that inept

I have no expectations as far as QB play next year.

Any sort of assessment at this point is basically just wish or doom casting because none of us have actually seen any of them take meaningful snaps.

I was so livid at the bowl game because not only did Jalen go full meltdown he robbed us of seeing what the other guys were capable of against an elite defense.

It made no sense. None.

I expect us to field a competent QB every year. McElroy was branded a game manger and wasn’t a big recruit. CNS had the good sense to let him manage us to a natty.
