But they'll keep hiring OCs who run shotgun, 4 wide, spread stuff.

No doubt, but AU kept doing the same thing after Cam...but Chiz couldn’t recapture that magic.

Agree - that is the challenge, for sure.

Yeah, similar in terms of success, I mean. No doubt they'll try to maintain a similar style though.

Of course, even on that point, you have to consider that Ed's the type of guy that could think he's hired the next great pass-first spread savant but really have a Steve Ensminger/Paul Johnson chimera.

Well they will have some good seasons and maybe some great ones like this year. They are definitely recruiting at a high level but will they be in the top 5 from here on is a big question. It's all about the QB in college football

No.

They are 2010 Auburn. Orgeron is Cajun Gene Chizik. He's got a QB and an OC and not much else. Once white Cam Newton leaves, it'll be tough for them.

No indication that Orgeron is building a program. He has a band-aid in the form of a transfer QB. Orgeron is a glorified D-line coach and the image of him screaming "UT Wildboys! UT Wildboys!" while recruits sit there uncomfortably is what he is.

He'll be a perennial 9-3 HC at LSU before it eventually ends badly. If you ask Saban, he probably doesn't see Orgeron as a threat program-wise and is probably amused by him.

You do know he Orgeron not only beat us in a game but in several recruiting battles as well including stealing a 5 star TE. They busted our arse on 3 or 4 elite recruits so I doubt Saban is laughing

LSU wins a few and loses a few crootin’ battles every year.

The thing they didn’t land is an elite QB, and that position makes or breaks all of the other offensive guys.

Defensive players can shine on their own talent, but offensive players depend almost totally on the QB.

I don't think it'll happen again, though. They're Auburn 2010.

What’s ironic is Bama is practically Bama 2010, and it also happened on a year we play South Carolina once again.

And a bowl game against a team from Michigan.

So I guess that means at least two back-to-back championships are coming up.

This is LSU's golden era. This one year. They'll always be in the mix, but they'll never find the consistency. Too many roadblocks in the administration and the government itself (although a few of those are finally gone to be fair). In its own way not unlike Bama post-Bryant. Everyone wants to have a say and Eaux isn't dominant enough to maintain control.

I'm as giddy as the rest of y'all to see LSU and O come back down to earth but the key piece hasn't happened. Somebody has to take Joe Brady out of Baton Rouge. It hasn't happened yet and the talk has mostly died down. Is he staying? Because if he is, it's gonna be a helluva lot harder to knock them off the top of the mountain.

Nope. Ask in 2 years and they will be struggling. This year is their magic season.

NFL rumors and Brady are heating up. I have a feeling that if he stays he won't be at LSU for more than another season. I also think next season will be Aranda's last season because I think either he or Brady will be USC's next coach. This is a great time to be a young OC who has success. I wouldn't be surprised if Brady is an NFL head coach in the coming weeks or after one more season in Baton Rouge.

Alabama routinely goes to Louisiana and plucks out several of their top 10 recruits.
The opposite is not true.

I don't think anyone in the league of retread coaches will roll the dice on a guy as young and inexperienced as Brady for a head slot. But I could definitely see him getting an OC job in the pros.

Before Kingsbury I would have agreed with you.
