It's decision day for 2021 Top150 wing Johnathan Lawson. He will announce his college decision tonight at 7pm CT and is down to Oregon, Alabama, Arkansas, Vanderbilt and Iowa State.

I don't think we are a serious contender here. Maybe we would've been if we missed on Holt, but i'm guessing he will end up at Oregon with his brother.

Top--50 junior Gradey Dick goes in-depth on his recruitment

quote:

Wichita native, Gradey Dick, announced that he will be transferring to the usual national powerhouse, Sunrise Christian Academy. This year's Gatorade Player of the Year in the state already holds many high-major offers and has also grown in both the height and weight section.

He has grown from 6-foot-5 and 170-pounds to 6-foot-7 then now 195-pounds.

Sunrise Christian Academy was a big move for Dick who discussed his recruitment and how that move to Sunrise is going with Stockrisers.com.

How’s the recruitment going, any handful of schools you’re thinking about?

Dick: “Haven’t really thought about who’s in the mix yet, just that I’m working on my top 10. I am talking with my family and starting the process of deciding which ten programs will be on my list.”

Who’s still involved in your recruitment?

Dick: “Mainly all of the schools that offered me. That list has Kansas, Baylor, K-State, Wichita State, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, Northwestern, Florida, Alabama, Texas A&M, Creighton, Nebraska, Colorado, Purdue, Illinois, Xavier, Texas Tech, and Iowa State on it.”

What about any newer programs?

Dick: “The newer schools that have offered that I look forward to learning more about is Florida and Alabama.”

What did you enjoy about your recent presentation from Alabama?

Dick: “What caught my eye about Alabama is their offensive freedom and their style of play in transition.”

How about the local programs?

Dick: “The local schools like Kansas, K-State, and Wichita State, they like my versatility and the fact that they are so close to me, really helps with easy visits.”

Kansas, they’ve been involved for a while, what are they pitching?

Dick: “Kansas has recruited me from the start so I’ve had a great relationship with them for a while. We had a virtual visit a while ago mainly just to talk and see each other again.”

A school like Creighton, what are your thoughts on them?

Dick: “A great offensive play style for a wing-like me. The way they run guys off screens to get more open and things like that really caught my eye.”

How has the move to Sunrise been?

Dick: “Sunrise has been great, it’s pretty much a college basketball program and that’s why I made the move. So I can get workouts in whenever, practice against amazing talent every day, and play a traveling schedule.”

Any recruiting going on from your teammates?

Dick: “Yeah, Kendall [Brown] is recruiting me to join him at Baylor. Zach Clemence is my roommate as well and he’s a Kansas commit.”

The picture of Jonathan Lawson’s recruitment is a little blurrier than the one depicting that of Fudge. On Wednesday evening, Lawson will choose either Oregon, Alabama, Arkansas, Vanderbilt or Iowa State. The Ducks are the smart money here, but it wouldn’t be wise to wager much. Alabama is very much alive. Any other choice would bring some semblance of surprise.

Rob Cassidy is a National Recruiting Analyst for Rivals and he seems to think we are "very much alive" in the Johnathan Lawson sweepstakes. I'm skeptical, but I guess we will find out tonight at 8 EST.

Caleb Houstan, the 6-foot-8 forward from Montverde (FL) Academy and the UPlay Canada AAU team, has named Virginia, Duke, Michigan and Alabama as his final four schools, per Tipton Edits.

Houstan cut Gonzaga, Michigan State, Oregon, Arizona, Seton Hall, Maryland, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas Tech, North Carolina, Texas and Arkansas from his previous list.

After reclassifying from the Class of 2022 in July, Houstan is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 2 power forward and No. 9 overall prospect in the Class of 2021.

Houstan, who turned 17 in January, plans to attend college in 2021 and then potentially enter the 2022 NBA Draft.

Several other Canadian stars reclassed in prior years, including Anthony Bennett, Andrew Wiggins, Jamal Murray and R.J. Barrett.

“It’s not necessarily getting to the NBA earlier,” his father David told ZAGSBLOG in July. “I think that that can be a mistake in many cases. It’s really a case of what he wants to accomplish, what he’s looking to do, what the opportunity is, and how he’s doing in school.

“If he’s doing really well in school, if he’s having success, maybe he makes that decision. If there’s an opportunity at a school he really likes [ and wants to stay longer], maybe he does that. But at the same time he is academically available to go in 2021.”

Montverde coach Kevin Boyle, who has coached Barrett and five other top-three NBA picks since 2011, said Houstan reminds him of Khris Middleton of the Milwaukee Bucks.

“He reminds me a lot of Middleton and I don’t think there’s a question he’s going to be a pro,” Boyle said by phone. “I think he’s going to be a very good pro because he’s tailor-made for today’s NBA. He’s probably the best high school shooter in America.

“I think he shot 53 or 54 percent from three last year and that’s every single day for the last two years. He’s just an incredible, incredible shooter, and when he’s open you feel like it’s going in. He’s got good range. He’s good shooting off screens and off of movement. He’s capable of being a big-time shooter and a guy you can run off screens to get good shots. He’s also an incredible worker.”

It is absolutely unreal that 5* Charles Bediako could actually end up as only the third highest rated signee in this class.

Five-star forward Caleb Houstan who ranks No. 8 in the industry generated 247Sports Composite took a giant step towards his college decision on Wednesday when he cut down his college list.

A 6-foot-8 forward with a smooth stroke, the senior at Montverde (Fla.) Academy and product of the U Play Canada summer program tells 247Sports that he is down to Alabama, Duke, Michigan and Virginia.

“Going through the process over the summer, over the quarantine and talking to the schools I think I have gotten the information that I needed,” said Houstan. “I just think that the information I have, those schools are going to be the best schools for me and I would like to make a decision before my high school season starts so that had a big impact on it.”

The situation with Covid-19 has prevented Houstan from making visits, but it hasn’t had a negative impact on the overall process of picking a school.

“I’ve been able to maneuver through it,” said Houstan. “The coaching staffs have done a great job through zooms and facetime calls of being able to show me campuses. I haven’t been able to go on any visits, but they have done a great job with the virtual stuff.”

Houstan discussed what allowed the four remaining programs to make his final list.

Alabama: “The style of play, I could definitely see myself in the way that they play as well as having the chance to develop, get good minutes and have an impact from the start. I also have a great relationship with them.

“With them, they did a lot of video of how they would use me and compared me to some of their wings that can really shoot the ball. That helped a lot.”

Duke: “The strong history of them getting guys to the League, they are a reputable program. Once again, the relationship with them is probably one of the biggest things. They believe they can get me better and prepare me to get to the next level.

“I’ve talked through the coaches about how much (R.J. Barrett) loved it and how much it helped him prepare for going to the League.”

Michigan: “(Juwan Howard) played 19 years in the NBA himself and that can help me a lot. He’s somebody that has been there before and done it so he knows a lot about the game, especially at the next level and what It takes.

“There’s a fit for me in terms of style of play. I fit in their halfcourt and transition of how they play and the relationship with coaches is there.”

Virginia: “I think the relationship with them stands out. They were one of the first programs to set up zooms with me during the quarantine period and they were really recruiting me heavily. They really took a lot of interest in getting to know me as a player. They told me about my strengths and how I could do in their system and they also told me about the things they could help me get better with.

Reading between the lines it sounds like it's us and Michigan out front.

Having us and Virginia in a final four is pretty funny just because of the style of play aspect. We are polar opposites.

Also, he said he wanted to decide before his season starts. That means a decision is coming fairly soon, right?

JD is very active in what's going on since he committed. Makes me wonder how active he was on our behalf in silence before he publicly committed.

All of you out there who love Alabama basketball and follow this program listen up:

You are seeing something unprecedented. We’ve NEVER recruited at this level. We might get one of these type players a cycle. If we got 2, it was a banner class. We are recruiting and landing 4 and 5 stars all over the court. If Nate can utilize this talent, we are on course to be like Florida under Donovan: a perennial tournament team and regular Final Four candidate. Byrne and the money folks need to be prepared to write a long contract with a lot of zeroes for this staff. LOCK THEM UP! I’m pumped. We’re about to blow right by the Sanderson era.

My fear is Nate is too good and the FOGs will let him walk because basketball might get too good and start taking attention and resources from “muh foosball”! God help us.

That's why I am thinking it's us and Michigan out front by a bit. He cited style of play for us, but not for Duke or UVA.

Oats>Howard

Like someone already mentioned, at this point the thing that worries me most is losing Oats sooner than later. If we have a good season, paired with his recruiting, people are going to come calling.

I don't see Oats leaving for anything that isn't a clear step up. Considering the age of his daughters and how much he and his family appear to really love where they are right now, I think his plan is to be here for the foreseeable future.

Now if a Michigan/Michigan State/Syracuse/Wisconsin type school where he has some geographic history or one the big time blue bloods like Duke/Kansas/UNC come calling, then it would be tough for him to turn something like that down imo.

Like others have said though, if the program continues on this trajectory that he and the staff have created - it would be incredibly disappointing if we let money get in the way of keeping Oats in town. But if Oats does keep this trajectory and we see the results on the floor, I can't imagine he'll be able to leave town without turning down a great offer from Alabama.
